In this study, hydraulic characteristics of horizontal ocean circulation block was examined through hydraulic experiments. Hydraulic experiments including 12 wave cases, 5 current cases and 60 wave-current cases were carried out to propose useful empirical formula. Outgoing current speed is increased as the wave height higher rather than wave period under the wave only condition. The water level at the front of the water circulation block is going up and going down at the rear side under the current only condition.

하천이나 해안으로 유입된 부유사는 수질 및 생태학적으로 많은 문제를 발생시키고 있어 지속적인 모니터링을 수행하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 OBS를 수면에 설치하여 관측하는 방법과 무인항공로 취득한 이미지를 분석하여 점 관측자료를 2D 관측자료로 확장하는 방법을 제시하고 적용성을 확인하였다.

The design wave and deck clearance of an offshore structure are very important factors to secure the stability of the structure after construction. In case that the structure is installed on a deep flat bottom, the deck clearance may be determined from the maximal wave crest height which can be sought by directly applying a nonlinear wave theory (Cnoidal or Stream function theory) to the design wave condition. But it is often the case that the structure is placed on a shallow underwater shoal having a steep slope due to construction expense and convenience. In this case, the wave height and depth conditions at the structural position may easily exceed the wave breaking condition beyond which the nonlinear wave theory cannot be applied. In the present study, a numerical method using a shallow water wave propagation model based on Boussinesq equation is demonstrated to reproduce the nonlinear wave deformation along up the shallow underwater shoal and the maximal wave crest height at the structural position. The method is applied to check the validity of the existing deck height of Gageocho Ocean Research Station installed on an underwater shoal in Korea. The station was damaged by typhoon Muifa in 2011 with the cellar deck and its appurtenance seriously deformed or destroyed.

Background and objective : There have been a few cases of anaphylaxis caused by a sting from Pachycondyla chinensis (PC). This study was conducted to observe clinical features of seven PC-induced anaphylaxis patients, and to evaluate the role of serum specific IgE and IgG4 antibodies. Material and method : Seven patients with PC-induced anaphylaxis and 15 unexposed heal- thy controls were enrolled. PC was collected at patients' home and prepared as PC extract. Four patients had complained of bee and wasp sting anaphylaxis. Serum specific IgE and specific IgG4 antibodies were detected by ELISA. Positive cut-off value for specific IgE and specific IgG4 was decided as mean plus 2×S.D. of absorbance value of controls. Results : There were six(86%) female subjects and one male subject. Five(71%) patients resided in Kyoung-Ki do. Four(57%) patients had positive allergy skin prick test to ant antigen. Four (57%) patients had other allergic diseases such as asthma, urticaria and allergic rhinitis. Four(57%) patients had experienced anaphylaxis after bee and wasp sting. All patients had positive serum specific IgE and six(86%) patients had positive serum specific IgG4. Conclusion : IgE-mediated reaction contributed to development of PC-induced anaphylaxis. Specific IgG4 does not seem to have a protective role in PC-induced anaphylaxis patients. Further studies will be needed to evaluate a possible cross-reactivity between ant, and bee venoms. Acetaminophen is a widely used analgesic-antipyretic. Hypersensitivity reactions to acetaminophen are rare and selective sensitivity to acetaminophen without aspirin or non-steroidal antiinflammatory drug intolerance is even rarer. We experienced a case of acetaminopheninduced bronchial asthma without aspirin sensitivity. An oral challenge test upto 650mg of Tylenol demonstrated urticaria and dyspnea with greater than 20% decrease of FEV. Both oral provocation test with 500mg of aspirin and lysine-aspirin bronchoprovocation test showed negative results. In conclusion, we report a case of acetaminophen-induced asthma without aspirin sensitivity. Cyclo-oxygenase inhibition may not be a pathogenic mechanism of acetaminophen-induced bronchial asthma. Further studies will be needed to clarify the mechanism of this reaction.

Adult onset Stills Disease (AOSD) is a systemic inflammatory disease characterized by spik- ing high fevers, arthritis, and an evanescent rash. Although many patients respond to nonsteroi- dal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) and corticosteroid, some patients fail to do so or are found to be resistant and require high doses of corticosteroid which induce severe side effects. Recently, treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) has been reported to be effective in patients with AOSD who were refractory to NSAIDs. Here, we report a case of AOSD treat- ed with IVIG with a review of the literature.

Background and objective : IgG subclass deficiency has been reported in patients with bronchial asthma and is associated with recurrent respiratory tract infections. This study was done to identify prevalence of IgG subclass deficiency and to evaluate the possible difference between atopic and non-atopic asthmatics. Subjects and methods : We measured serum levels of IgG and IgG subclass in 35 asthmatic patients and 50 healthy controls using nephelometry. Reference values of each IgG subclass was defined as cumulative percentile between 2.5% to 97.5% of controls. Results : Total IgG, IgG1 and IgG2 of asthmatics were significantly lower than for those of controls(p<0.05, respectively). In atopic asthmatics, compared with non-atopic asthmatics, IgG4 level was significantly higher (p<0.05). The frequency of IgG subclass levels below the reference value was eight (22.9%) of 35 asthmatics. Conclusion : IgG, IgG1 and IgG2 were significantly lower in asthmatic patients. Some patients had IgG subclass levels below reference value. Further studies will be needed to evaluate their clinical significance.

Background: Adverse reactions to radio-contrast media (CM) represent a serious problem. There have been few reports about incidence of adverse reactions to CM in general population. Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the incidence and clinical features of adverse reactions to low osmolar, nonionic contrast media in the general population. Method: A total of 12,177 examinee underwent contrast-enhanced CT using low osmolar, nonionic CM. Immediate adverse reaction is defined as symptoms occur within 1 hour after contrast administration and late adverse reaction is defined as symptoms occur more than 1 hour but less than 7 days following contrast administration. A questionnaire was used to collect general and medical information. Result: Adverse events were noted in 306 cases of total 13,552 cases. The incidence of adverse reactions was 2.3% and severe reactions was 0.04%. The incidence of immediate reaction was 2.0% and late reactions was 0.3%. Symptoms of immediate and late reactions were nausea/vomiting (22.2%), erythema/pruritus/urticaria (74.2%), angioedema (2.0%) and hypotension (1.6%). Conclusion: The incidence of adverse reaction to low osmolar, nonionic CM was 2.3% in the general population. The skin was the most commonly affected site of adverse reactions. 스테레오 이미지를 이용한 파랑 관측기법은 WASS(Wave Acquisition Stereo System)라는 이름으로 이탈리아 ISMAR-CNR팀과 국제 공동연구로 수행하고 있으며 현재 신안 가거초 종합해양과학기지에 WASS를 구축하고 연구를 수행하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 WASS 소개와 파랑관측 결과를 제시하였다.

Result from the global environmental changes represented by global warming, environmental variables including the sea temperature and sea surface height rise, ocean acidification, etc are reported to being in progress rapidly. Many studies have been carried out to understand the cause of the environmental changes and to deal with the impact. The environmental changes are closely related to the interaction between the ocean and atmosphere, especially in the boundary layer between them. So many studies on the energy and material, such as carbon dioxides, exchanges between the ocean and atmosphere are under going. In recent years, whitecap is recognized as the important parameters for the interaction between the ocean and atmosphere. There have been many efforts to observe and qualifying variables related to whitecap. Whitecap is the direct result from the wave breaking which have large temporal and spatial variability, and it is very hard to do quantitative observation. Previous studies have suggested the analytical solution, which defined the whitecap coverage, calculated from the wind, as a primary variable. Recently, owing to development in the image processing technologies, videos and still images are being used to observe whitecap coverage. But it has been very hard to obtain the continuous, precise wave images in the ocean. In this study, wave image obtained in the Ieodo Ocean Research Station were used to reduce the error of the conversion from image to whitecap coverage, and the formula which suggested by Sugihara et al. (2007). Specifically, it presented Pixel intensity threshold determination method and criteria image sampling frequency of Whitecap.
