the newly developed electric vehicles are equipped with only single speed transmission in order to minimize the drivetrain mass, volume, cost and issue of shift quality. In this study, a motor control algorithm for an electric vehicle(EV) with dual clutch transmission(DCT) type 2-speed transmission system was proposed. To evaluate the performance of the proposed motor control algorithm, dynamic model of the DCT type 2-speed transmission system for the EV was constructed and a MATLAB/Simulink based shift performance simulator was developed, which is consisted of a motor, DCT, actuator and vehicle model. Using the simulator, it was found that the change of the acceleration and shift time were reduced by the proposed control algorithm, which provides the improved shift quality.

In this study, a performance simulator for the electric vehicle with two-speed synchro-type transmission was developed. Using the simulator, 2-speed transmission system with selected shifting points and gear ratios were compared with the fixed gear ratio system, and the reduction in the drive motor capacity and the acceleration performance and fuel economy were evaluated. It is found from the simulation results that the maximum velocity, climbing, fuel economy and acceleration performance are improved with 2-speed synchro-type transmission for the same motor specification, and the EV has similar performance with reduced maximum motor torque.
