Ultra-hydrophobic solid surface has been attracted particular attention in industrial application as well as daily life. Conventionally, the hydrophobic solid surface can be obtained by only chemical modification such as incorporation of fluorine compound on solid surfaces. In order to get the ultra- hydrophobic surfaces, not only the chemical properties but also the geometric surface structure should be controlled. In this study, the durable ultra-hydrophobic solid surfaces was obtained using the grafting-from polymerization from the solid surface using perfluoroalkylethyl acrylate with 4,4-azobis-(4-cyanopentanoic acid -(3-chlorodi methylsilyl)propylester (ADS) at fractal surface geometry. The surface characterizations were done using contact angle method, surface plasmon spectroscopy (SPS), x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and box-counting method. A water droplet on this surface with the fractal structure has a contact angle as large as 160° with apparent surface free energy of ca. 0.1 dyn/cm
