In this paper, an obstacle detection technique through the fusion of a 3D ToF optical sensor module and an ultrasonic sensor is presented to detect obstacles made of light reflectors and light transmitting materials. In addition, we proposed a cliff detection technique that can detect the cliff in front of the electric wheelchair using a 3D ToF optical sensor module. For the fusion of the two sensors, a multi-distance sensor module was manufactured, and the technique was verified using this. As a result of the experiment, obstacles of various materials and distances for each obstacle were detected, and the cliff in front of the electric wheelchair was detected.

The number of electric wheelchairs is increasing. On the other hand, a system is needed to assist with the lack of care personnel. In the case of movement of electric wheelchairs, it is intended to assist manpower by creating an autonomous driving system to assist movement at the entrance of the hospital or the entrance of the complex after moving through taxis for the disabled. However, it is difficult to have map data in all environments to move from the point where there is no map to the point where map data exists through the EKF filter of the UWB sensor, a plan is being made to estimate the current position and generate a path by generating a direction angle of the wheelchair.
