Korean ergot sclerotia which were collected from Agropyron semicostatum Nees, Miscanthus sinensis Anders. var. purpurascens Rend., M. sacchariflorus Benth. et Hook., M. sinensis Anders., Eulalia speciosa O. Kuntz, Themeda triandra Forsk. var. japonica Makino, and Phalaris arundinacea L. were investigated for their alkaloid constituents. Quantitative determinations of alkaloids were carried out using a modified procedure of van Urk and Michelon-Kelleher methods. The results showed that the two ergots from Agropyron semicostatum and Phalaris arundinacea contained total alkaloids up to 0. 137 per cent. The alkaloids of these two ergots are mostly water-insoluble alkaloids. The ergot parasitizing Reed canary grass was found to contain both water-soluble and water-insoluble alkaloids. The TLC and PPC tests for the ergot alkaloids from Agropyron semicostatum and Phalaris arundinacea revealed that they contain at least two alkaloids respectively and that the ergot from Themeda triandra Forsk var. japonica has one. The lipid contents of the seven ergots ranged from 13 to 29 per cent.

한국에서 자라는 화본과(Graminae) 식물인 Agropyron semicostatum Nees, Miscanthus sinensis Anders. var. purpurascens Rend., M. sacchariflorus Benth. et Hook., M. sinensis Anders., Eulalia speciosa O. Kuntz, Themeda triandra Forsk. var. japonica Makino, 및 Phalaris arundinacea L.의 7종에 기생하는 맥각을 채집하여 그 알칼로이드 성분을 분석하였다. 알칼로이드의 정량으로써 van Urk 법과 Michelon-Kelleher 법의 장점을 취하여 개량한 방법을 이용하여 시행하였던 바 Agropyron semicostatum과 Phalaris arundinacea의 각 맥각이 0.137%까지의 알칼로이드 총량을 함유하였다. 이 두가지 맥각의 알칼로이드의 종류는 주로 비수용성 알칼로이드였다. 후자의 식물에 기생한 맥각은 수용성 및 비수용성 알칼로이드를 모두 함유하고 있었다. 이 두가지 액각의 알칼로이드를 TLC 및 PPC 법으로 분석하여 본바 각각 적어도 2종의 알칼로이드를 함유하고 Themeda triandra Forsk. var. japonica에 기생한 맥각은 1종을 함유하고 있음을 알았다. 7종의 맥각의 지질 함량은 13~29% 였다.
