Semi-spherical CVT(SS-CVT) is a friction type CVT, which transmits power by the frictional force between a spherical shaped variator and an output disk. In this study, the mathematical model for analyzing dynamics of the SS-CVT was developed. Since 2-dimensional friction behavior is occurred on the contact point between a variator and a disk, the assumption of perfect rolling is not correct; so we developed the model describes the 2-dimiensional friction force as a function of slip ratio and slip angle. For solving the divergence problem of slip ratio and slip angle, the time delay model with the first order was applied to calculating slip ratio and slip angle. Finally, the simulation of shifting performance in the time domain was performed.

In order to improve shift quality and fuel efficiency of passenger cars with automatic transmission(A/T), the number of gear steps has been developed to increase; and we have also developed the 8-speed A/T. Since the newly developed A/T has a different arrangement of planetary gear trains or clutches, its performances should be carefully investigated at the conceptual design stage to avoid facing structural problem after completion of the conceptual or layout design. In this study, the governing equations for torsional dynamics of A/T were derived and solved to be a solution set in matrix form. With this solution set of torsional dynamics, we proposed the useful methods for developing control logic of A/T. For example, the control strategy of 4-elements shift(a.k.a. double swap shift) was proved to form a unique way; and the minimal pressure level of the clutch which maintains engagement during shift was analyzed.

Semi spherical CVT(SS-CVT) is a traction type CVT, which transmits power by frictional force between a spherical shaped variator and an output disk. In this study, the design of variator was modified in order to cancel the thrust forces generated by bevel gears. In addition, the mathematical model for analyzing dynamics of the modified SS-CVT was developed. Since two dimensional friction behavior is occurred on a contact point between a variator and a disk, the assumption of perfect rolling is not correct Hence the dynamic and continuous friction model called LuGre model was considered, and the procedure of solving governing equations was presented.

In this study, a vehicle model for analyzing the shift characteristics is proposed. And On-road car test is carried out in order to extract model parameters and verify the proposed model. The model is composed of a detailed powertrain, an engine/AT housing, a simplified suspension system, tires and a vehicle body model. On the test, the vehicle accelerations and pitch ratio are measured by using accelerometers and gyro sensor. The other data, for example speeds, a throttle position and a brake signal, are taken from sensors which already exist in the vehicle. Vehicle model parameters are extracted from experimental data. Dynamic behavior at shift is simulated using the proposed vehicle model. By comparing and analyzing the simulation result and on-road car test data, the vibration of the Engine/AT housing influences dynamic behavior at shift. The effect of model parameters are also studied. Among model parameters, the location of engine mount influences the vibration of vehicle body resulting from the Engine/AT housing.

자동차의 저소음 보기류 구동 시스템을 개발하는 체계적인 방법론이 전산해석과 리그 실험을 통해 제시되었다. 벨트 구동 소음 예측의 두 가지 난제는 1) 벨트와 풀리 접촉면에서의 스틱-슬립 비선형성과 2) 벨트 구동 시스템과 파워트레인 회전진동계와의 연성이다. 본 연구에서는 최근 개발된 해석 방법을 이용하여 벨트 구동시스템과 엔진 회전진동계를 통합한 해석 모델을 구축하였고, 다양한 파워트레인 운전 조건에서 정합성을 확보하였다. 통합 모델을 이용하여 스틱-슬립 소음이 발생하는 벨트 시스템을 개선할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 또한 새로운 방법론을 통해 신엔진 개념설계에서 NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness), 기능, 연비 등을 고려한 개념 설계안을 제시하였다. A systematic development process for the low noise FEAD (Front End Accessory Drive) system is presented by combining CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) and the experimental rig test. In the estimation of the belt drive noise, two main difficulties arise from the high non-linearity due to the stick-slip contacts on the interfaces of the belt and pulleys, and the interaction of the belt drive system with the powertrain rotational parts. In this work, a recently developed analysis method of the belt drive has been employed considering powertrain rotational dynamics. As results, it shows good correlation with the vehicle tests in various operational modes. The established model has been employed to validate the new design improving the stick-slip noise of the problematic FEAD system. Furthermore, the best proposal of FEAD system in terms of functionality [NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness), fuel economy, cost. etc.] has been suggested in the concept design stage of new engine through this presented methodology.
