학습분석학 국내 문헌 고찰: 로그 데이터를 이용한 실증연구를 중심으로

학습분석학(Learning Analytics)은 학습이 일어나는 전 과정에서 수집되는 데이터를 분석하여 학습에 도움이 되는 다양한 정보를 제공하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 온라인 콘텐츠 활용과 이러닝이 보편화됨에 따라 학습분석학은 학습유형고찰, 학습평가, 맞춤 학습 등 교육의 질 향상에 도움이 될 것으로 기대된다. 그러나 아직 국내연구에서는 학습분석학의 연구가 미비한 점을 착안하여 본 연구에서는 국내에서 발표된 학습분석학을 적용한 문헌 자료를 분석하였고, 향후 국내연구에 주는 시사점을 살펴보았다. 본 연구는 2008년부터 2016년 2월까지 발표된 국내 학습분석학 관련 문헌 중 실증적 연구 중심의 문헌으로 최종 61편을 선정하였으며, 선별 절차와 과정은 Papamitsiou와 Economides(2014)의 문헌연구 방법을 따랐다. 문헌분석 결과, 국내에서 집중된연구 동향은 (1) 연구 목적은 학생 행동 모델링, 학습성과 예측, (2) 학습환경은 VLEs/LMSs, 웹기반학습을 주로 연구하였으며, (3) 자료분석방법은 연구 목적에 따라 분석 방법을 다르게 사용하였으나 주로 Statistics, Regression, Text Mining이 많이 활용되었다. 본연구의 시사점은 우선, 학습분석학을 통한 새로운 교수전략 제안과 학습자의 학습성과 예측, 중도탈락 예방 등 학습자 이외에 지원 가능한 다양한 변인에 대한 연구가 상대적으로 미미했던 부분의 보완이 필요하다. 또한 MOOC, 인지적 튜터 시스템, 모바일과 같은 다양한 학습환경에서의 학생 및 학생 행동 모델링 연구가 필요하다. 나아가 데이터를 추출하고 마이닝하는 방법과 이에 따른 분석 모형화에대한 연구를 교육공학적 측면에서 접근함으로써 다양한 학습자의 개인별, 맞춤형 교육을 제공할 수 있는 시각화방법을 포함한 프로세스가 내재된 학습관리시스템 모델링 연구 또한 필요하다. 결론적으로 학습분석학의 활용에 관한 다양한 관점의 고찰은 교수설계, 교수전략의 새로운방향을 제시하고 효과적인 데이터의 활용과 학습관리시스템의 모형을 제안할 것으로 기대된다. Learning analytics is a research method used in data collection, analysis, and reporting of learners`` progress, for purposes of understanding, predicting, and optimizing learners`` learning process. Along with the rapidly increasing use of online learning, data derived analytics methods are anticipated to improve the quality of education. However, research on learning analytics is relatively new in Korean academia. This study aims to identify research trends in Korea on the (1) learning settings, (2) research objectives, and (3) research methods used in learning analytics literatures. Using Papamitsiou & Economides‘s(2014) review process as a guideline, we surveyed empirical studies published in Korea between 2008 and 2016, and 61 were aggregated for in-depth analysis. The results show that most research published in Korea is limited to applying learning analytics in the context of VLEs/LMSs and web-based learning platforms. For research objectives and research methods also narrowly focused on objectives and research methods. The implication of this study is that the Korean academia needs to expand to different applications of learning analytics to include instructional strategies, prediction of student success, and prevention of dropouts. Furthermore, we need to expand to include the design of MOOC, cognitive tutor system, and mobile learning systems to offer automated data extraction and data mining, and capablities of visualized personalized data. These data-driven learning environment could foster learning analytics research and improve quality of teaching and learning.
