Cycle simulation of Ground Source Heat Pump[GSHP] system was carried out to determine the design specification of basic components such as turbo compressor and heat exchangers. Part load operation characteristics of the designed GSHP system was estimated using the compressor and heat exchanger performance data. A 50RT class turbo compressor for GSHP system is now under development, in which R134a refrigerant is adopted as working fluid. The compressor with variable cascade diffusers is designed to work both in cooling and heating modes so that it can actively keep up with the climate change with high efficiency. The normal running speeds of the compressor are 59000rpm for heating mode and 70000rpm for tooling mode respectively. It has two identical impellers at both ends of the rotor so as to minimize aero-induced thrust force effectively. GSHP system was coupled with a vortical type heat exchanger, and heat gain and heat loss from ground were evaluated per a bore hole. For the optimal integration of the heat pump system, its header for circulating fluid was combined with the ground heat exchangers in parallel and series configuration.
고온초전도 전력케이블 저온용기의 최적단열설계에 관한 연구

The object of this study is to find the optimal insulation design conditions of a HTS power cable cryostat. The optimum condition of a cable cryostat is obtained by varying types of MLIs, cable core weights, spacer diameters, winding pitches and MLI layer numbers. As the weight of cable core is increased, conduction heat transfer from surroundings to cable cryostat is increased. But as the spacer pitch is increased from 120 ㎜ to 200 ㎜, the heat leak of cable cryostat remains almost constant. The optimal number of MLI layers is suggested. Double ply MLI is more effective than triple ply MLI and the insulation effect is best when the number of MLI layers is 36.

A superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) system has shorter response time and longer life time, and is more economical, and environment-friendly than other uninterruptible power supply (UPS). A conduction cooling system is well answer for the high temperature superconductor (HTS) SMES system. Because the conduction cooling system is simple, light and small structure. The purpose of this paper is to design and verify the effective conduction cooling system for the HTS SMES system. The analysis of heat loads in cryostat is performed. Thermal shield heat loads, temperatures of HTS coil surface and conduction Cu plate are estimated and measured.

Experimental results of two stage Gifford-McMahon cryorefrigerator are described. In-prototype experiments, drive mechanism is Scotch Yoke type driven by stepping motor, copper meshes and lead balls are used for regenerator's materials in the first stage and the second stage, respectively. To find optimal conditions of the cryopump, no load temperature and refrigeration capacity according to the variation of cycle frequency and operating pressure are measured, and the cool down and load characteristics at particular cycle frequencies are presented. In general, as the cycle frequency is lowered, no load temperature is dropped but refrigeration capacity is diminished. As the representative result, in a case that the cycle frequency is 70rpm and steady state pressure is 14 atm, no load temperature of second stage is lowered to 10.5K in 55 minuters, and in this situation the refrigeration capacity of the first stage is 42W at 80K, that of the second stage is 11 W at 20K.

기존에 진행되고 있는 대표적인 국내외 초전도 전력케이블 개발 및 케이블에 적용된 극저온냉각 시스템에 대한 현황을 소개하였다. 현재 초전도 전력케이블은 1 ㎞ 이상 장선화가 진행됨에 따라 수 십 ㎾ 용량의 냉각시스템을 필요로 하고 있다. 지난 10년간 프론티어사업을 통해 초전도케이블은 선진국과 대등한 수준이거나 일부 앞서가는 분야도 있다. 이제는 극저온 냉동기 등의 핵심부품 국산화 개발을 통해 저렴하고 신뢰성 있는 극저온냉각시스템을 갖춤으로서 초전도케이블시스템이 시장에서 경쟁력을 갖출 수 있는 기반을 마련해야 할 때임을 상기해야 할 것이다. Cryogenic cooling is necessary for HTS power cables to perform their intended function. In the cooling process, sub-cooled liquid nitrogen is circulated by a pump to absorb and dissipate the heat generated in the cable and introduced from outside. For successful cooling, the thermal loads of cable systems and the hydraulic characteristics of the cooling passage of the cable should be well investigated to design the long length cables. The cooling capacity of the cable system is decided by evaluating the thermal load. The pressure drop in the cable is an important design parameter, because the pressure drop decides the length of the cable, size of the coolant circulation pump and circulation pressure, etc. Recently, demonstrative and practical researches of the HTS power cable and the cryogenic system are has been actively going. In this paper, the domestic and international current state of this field is described.
