Previous research on online replies (daet-gul) has reported that technological characteristics of the Internet influence the content and the type of daet-guls. For instance, anonymity and insufficient social information available online have been blamed for the abundancy of emotional and invective daet-guls. As such, research examining message-related factors affecting the type of resulting daet-guls is difficult to find. In this research, we assumed that the genre and the frame of online news articles would influence the type of resulting daet-guls. Results showed that depending on the genre and the frame of online news articles the ratios of logical vs. emotional and invective vs. non-invective daet-guls differed. Overall, political news articles with an episodic frame were found to induce less logical and more invective daet-guls.
