In previous study, we know that NOx and soot was reduced by stratified injection of diesel fuel-methanol. However, it is necessary to make clear more effect of methanol in simultaneous reduction of NOx and soot.<br/> Therefore. the present study measured flame temperature and KL value in the D.I diesel engine applied stratified injection of diesel-methanol.<br/> The two-color method was used to measure flame temperature and KL value which is approximately proportional to the soot amount along the optical path. Results of combustion pressure and exhaust gas was compared with flame temperature and KL value.<br/> From these investigation. Flame temperature and KL value was deceased by stratified injection of methanol. Tendency of mean temperature and KL value is coincident with concentration tendency of NOx and soot.

In the present study, reduction of harmful exhaust gas in a diesel engine using stratified injection system of dual fuel (diesel fuel and methanol) was tried. The nozzle and fuel injection pump of conventional injection system were remodeled to inject dual fuel in order from the same injector. The quantity of each fuel was controlled by micrometers, which were mounted at rack of injection pumps. The injection ratio of dual tuel was certificated by volumetric ratio in injection quantity test. Cylinder pressure and exhaust gas were measured and analyzed under various supply condition of duel fuel. We confirmed that combustion of dual fuel was performed successfully by using modified injection system in a D.I. diesel. Soot and NOx arc simultaneously reduced by stratified injection without large deterioration of themal efficiency, but THC and CO are relatively increased.<br/>

EGR technology is widely used to reduce NOx emission generated from small diesel engines owing to simple structure and low cost compared with its benefits. NOx is sufficiently decreased by EGR, but simultaneously gives rise to the increment in PM and high fuel consumption due to the trade-off relationship of NOx and PM. Recently, it is being reported that cooled-EGR system with a cooler has the better effects on the decrement in NOx without the aggravation of fuel consumption and PM. However, the cooling of EGR temperature shows the increasing concentration of other harmful exhaust gases except NOx according to the operation conditions of engine. To resolve this problem, it is necessary to control EGR temperature for the more active reduction of NOx after considering the exhaust characteristic of PM and CO as well as NOx. In this study, the control attribution of EGR temperature and the output and exhaust properties with the change of EGR temperature and operation conditions is investigation in a HSDI (High Speed Direct Injection) diesel engine applied bypass EGR cooler system.

A prior fundamental study was executed using a constant volume chamber to improve the buming properties oflean pre-mixture by the injection of active radicals generated in the sub-chamber. In consequence, RI method shows remarkable progress in the aspects of buming velocity and combustible lean limit compared with SI method. In this study, the necessary additional works have been performed to be based on the former results. We changed parameters as the initial temperature and the initial pressure of mixture. And the effects of residual gas at issue in a real engine were investigated. As a result, the effects of initial temperature were significant, but on the other hand, those of initial pressure were slight. The correlation of passage hole number between overall passage hole area was grasped. And the more detailed analysis is required on residual gas.

An experimental study was carried out to acquire the data about the effects of radical ignition on lean burn using CVC(constant volume combustor) and a real engine. A CVC is divided into the sub-chamber and the main chamber and numerous narrow passage holes are arranged among the main chamber and the sub-chamber. The products including radicals generated by spark ignition in the sub-chamber derives the simultaneous multi-point ignition in the main chamber. We examined the effects of the ratio between the sub-chamber volume and the sectional area of passage holes. In a CVC, the overall burning time including the ignition delay became very short and the maximum burning pressure was slightly increased by the radical ignition(RI) method in comparison with those by the conventional spark ignition(SI) method. It was proved that the optimum Ah/Vs ratio exists with the equivalence ratio. Also, conventional diesel engine was remodeled to a spark ignition engine, and that is finally converted to a radical engine with sub-chamber. It was proved that the residual gas in the sub-chamber brings severe cycle variation in a real RI engine. Therefore a new system using CNG and solenoid type of fuel injector was adopted to solve scavenging problem and fundamental experiments were performed for CVC prior to engine operation. As a result, the effects of residual gas were very great and the more detailed analysis is required on residual gas.

It is necessary to develope the active safety system in terms of driver's safety and convenience. In this paper, we were developed the non-contact type of window safety system operated by the initial value of feedback control such as the output signal of photo sensor. It was designed based on the control algorithm with an improved load sensitivity. Therefore, compared with the existing system, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of a mull-function. Also, it has a convenient functions of the window such as an auto up/down and closing, and has a response times better. It can be installed the various types of common vehicles that have the different movement distance and speed of window. In conclusion, the developed system may be adapted the vehicle commercially.

EGR is applied to diesel engines as the main measure to reduce NOx emissions. However, the application of EGR is also having a problems which we have to solve. In particular, EGR system has relation the trade-off between NOx and Soot emissions, especially at high loads.<br/> Reducing NOx and Soot emissions from diesel engine, and improving fuel consumption simultaneously are important in meeting government regulations and society's needs.<br/> In this study, the effects of Cooled EGR on the characteristics of NOx and Soot have been investigated using HSDI(High Speed Direct Injection) diesel engine operating at various loads and speeds.<br/>

This paper describes the development of the engine electronic control system simulator such as intake & exhaust system, Ignition system, injection system for engine electronic control parts, hybrid vehicle system simulator, chassis electronic control system and common rail direct injection system for high technology vehicle part. Each system simulator is composed of hardware simulator including of teaching materials and it will be providers the special solution of education system that most teachers, learners and research-development engineer.

To investigate the method of the simultaneous reduction of Sout and Nox, we developed a new conception for dual stratified injection system in a Diesel Engine. Some parts of the injection system, ie. nozzle holder, delivery vale, were remolded to inject diesel and methanol in order from one injector. The quanity of diessel and methanol was controlled precisely by micrometers that were mounted at control tack of injection pump. The real injection quantity ratio of dual fuel was certificated by volumetric ratio at injection quantity experiment. We could confirm the capability that soot and NOx simultaneously were reduced by diesel-methanol stratified injection from the results of combustion and exhaust characteristic.
