While all-aluminum front end carriers have been frequently used by major foreign auto-makers, the carriers domestically produced are typically hybrid types. It is understood that higher fuel efficiency due to weight reduction can be achieved by using aluminum carriers because of aluminum's light weight. Moreover, aluminum is expected to posess high corrosion resistance and recyling rate. As a first step to enhance feasibility of domestic production of all-aluminum carriers, several carriers made by advanced auto makers are examined and compared. Besides basic characteristics such as appearance and weight, physical properties including composition, strength and elongation are carefully analyzed to obtain critical design and process factors.

Suspension arm needs high mechanical properties due to it’s importance in automotive and it's conventional processes are hot forging, cast forging and cast process. In these days two way are adopted to cost reduction, high vacuum die casting and high strength hot forging. In this paper the latter is studied, and light-weight suspension arm was developed by improving strength and optimizing chemical composition and heat treatment which is enhanced strength over 10% than conventional material.

Though weight reduction can be allowed by using aluminum control arm, it’s cost is still inferior to that of steel. To get cost reduction, it’s needed to change design concept innovatively such as extrusion direction, joining methods. Through this study, cost effective aluminum control arm was developed by precision extrusion and friction stir welding. and it makes possible cost reduction over 15%.

In recent days, aluminum alloys are used for automotive chassis parts construction in order to get weight reduction. Gravity casting among various aluminum casting processes is regarded to have good merit to make complex parts at a lower price and this makes increasing number of car-makers adopt the process for various chassis parts like control arms, knuckles and subframes. In this study, we've tried to develop a hybrid subframe using gravity hollow type sand casting process. FE-calculations for design optimization and casting simulation for process optimization were carried out. Samples cast with A356.0 alloy were tested after T6 heat treatment. Not only mechanical properties of the cast part but actual durability tests were also conducted in a module system to evaluate the acceptance for car application.

ABS (Anti-lock Brake System), TCS (Traction Control System), ESP (Electronic Stability Program) are the brake system which make vehicles more be safety. In order to fulfill the control of vehicle, those systems use a fluid control system ABS consists of several parts such as HU (Hydraulic Unit), ECU and sensors. Especially, solenoid valves operate the fluid pressure control by magnetic force. Generally, the high pressure is worked on hydraulic unit including solenoid valves. In order to shield between sleeve and housing which play an important part in solenoid valve, Nd:YAG laser welding was performed Welding parnmeter such as power, welding speed, repetition rate, pulse width were varied in this experiment The optimwn welding condition observed 47W power, 3.5 ms pulse width, 12 Hz frequencies. Hot cracks that have an effect on a mechanical performance were not observed in the weld metal. Burst test showed that all welded specimens were satisfied at the specification of solenoid valve.
