Key words such as changes in industrial structure, citizen participation, climate change, energy crisis and sustainability suggest a change in the paradigm of urban residential maintenance policy from the individual unit into a comprehensive living plan considering social characteristics. As an alternative to the existing Kyoto Protocol system, which imposed a reduction obligation on international climate change in only 38 major countries in 1997, in Paris Climate Change Accord, which is the foundation of the new era system, Korea adopted 37% (18.1% of the building sector) of BAU compared to the 2030 emission reduction target. By combining green remodeling with the development of a maintenance model of the integrated management concept of poor residential areas as the public role, such as small-scale maintenance projects, urban resource-saving regeneration is encouraging and reflects regional characteristics based on the participation of residents. There are growing needs to expand the buildings that are participated in green remodeling to promote city vitality and to contribute further to national greenhouse gas reduction. In this study, Green Remodeling Interest Support Project implemented by the MOLT(Ministry of Land Transport) and the Green Remodeling Center will be a prime example to encourage voluntary participation in the enforcement of energy performance standards of the metropolitan and provincial governments and budget preparation.

In this study, we analyzed the existing buildings and green remodeling activation status in Korea. We also analyzed the satisfaction of green remodeling and heating energy saving effect on residential buildings. Many residential buildings have been built for ten to thirty years after completion. Apartment type buildings have been the main building type, and green remodeling buildings have also appeared accordingly. Green remodeling buildings are mainly distributed in capital metropolitan cities, unlike aged buildings are mainly distributed regional area. As a result of the survey on the satisfaction of the green remodeling, many respondents were satisfied with the improvement of the indoor environment after the green remodeling. In particular, satisfaction levels were high regarding blocking outside noise and blocking chilly air or heat. The energy saving effect on gas for heating was a reduction of about 14% on average compared to before the green remodeling, and the confidence interval range was analyzed as 8% ~ 20%.
