In this study, the characteristics of six commercial combustion catalysts for oxidative decomposition of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) causing fine dust pollution were analyzed, and the combustion kinetics of these catalysts were investigated. Two domestic and four Chinese products were tested as a VOCs combustion catalyst. Surface morphology and crystal structure were analyzed by stereomicroscope and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The reaction behavior over the combustion catalysts was measured as a function of ignition temperature. The commercial catalyst was observed to have low uniform active site coated on the surface of most cordierite honeycomb structures except for one domestic catalyst. It was also confirmed that CeO₂ was mostly added to prevent carbon deposition, but solid carbon was deposited on the spent catalyst under reaction conditions in which high concentrations of volatile organic compounds were burned at relatively low temperatures. However, carbon deposition was not formed on the catalyst with a high Si/Al ratio. As a result, it was concluded that the strength of the acidic site over the catalyst is considered to be an important factor.
