Studies were conducted to find out relationship between the vigor of lettuce and the production of ethylene from germinating seeds of i5 cultivars and lines at 3 different temperatures. The effect of red light illumination and the effect of ACC (1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylic acid) and red light on seed germination and ethylene production were also investigated. major results can be summarized a s follows. 1. The lettuce seeds with greater ability of producing ethylene germinated better at high temperatures (25 and 30℃). Highly significant, positive correlations were found between the ethylene evolution and the germination rate at both tested temperatures. 2. Red light treatment significantly increased ethylene evolution and the seed germination rate at 25℃. Treatment of ACC in addition to the red light illumination further increased the germination rate as compared to the red light treatment alone. 3. Red light treatment a t high temperatures was found to be effective in releasing the thermodormancy induced by high temperatures, but the effectiveness varied considerably depending upon the cultivars.

Shading with silver-coated strips in combination with water spraying over the roof was more effective than others in lowering air-temperatures while the soil temperatures were more efficiently lowered by the silver-coated PE film in combination with water-flowing treatment on the soil surface. Significantly better growth and higher yield of spinach were recorded in the plots having lower soil termperatures. Whitewash spray with lime mixture resulted in higher yield of spinach as compared to the white water-soluble painting, possibly because of the better light penetration toward the end of the growing season by the natural weather off phenomenon.

The present study was performed to examine the high temperature adaptability with CO<sub>2</sub> treatment for tomato under the condition of greenhouse cultivation during summer season. The plants with the CO<sub>2</sub> concentration of 1000 ppm recorded higher scores in Fm/Fo and Fv/Fm but lower score in Fo than others through the measurement of chlorophyll fluorescence, which implicated that the plants with the CO<sub>2</sub> concentration of 1000 ppm had more adaptability to high temperature than the others. At the condition of the same air temperature as 30℃ and 40℃, the photosynthetic rate was increased with the increase of CO<sub>2</sub> concentration. When in the high air temperature state of 40℃, although the photosynthic rate was low in comparison with 30℃, its value was about 18.5umolm<sup>-2</sup>s<sup>-1</sup> in case of 1000ppm. The higher concentration of CO<sub>2</sub> made the more activated anti-oxidation enzyme (superoxide dismutase and peroxidase) for the both cultivars as 'momotaro' and 'minichal'. The cultivar of 'minichal' performed the high temperature limit as 41℃ at the CO<sub>2</sub> condition of 500 ppm and 43℃ at the CO<sub>2</sub> condition of 1000 ppm through the estimation on the variation of chlorophyll fluorescence Fo by CO<sub>2</sub> concentrations.

Foliar fertilization of carbonated water during lettuce hydroponic cultivation was increased photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance as higher carbon dioxide concentration of carbonated water The higher the carbon dioxide concentration in the carbonated water was better growth of lettuce. However, the carbon dioxide concentration of 500 ppm and 700 ppm in the carbonated water was increased the tip-burn occurrence, and the yield was higher in the 300 ppm. the carbon dioxide concentration of 300 ppm in the carbonated water was lower in the fresh weight but increased yield resulted in the lower of the tip-burn occurrence The high temperature limits for growth were 32℃ in the control, 33℃ in the 300ppm and 34℃ in the 500 ppm according to analyze chlorophyll fluorescent Fo. The high temperature tolerance in lettuce increased approximately 4℃ by foliar fertilization treatments of carbonated water under this experiment conditions. Also the activity of SOD(superoxide dismutase), the antioxidant enzyme, was higher with high carbon dioxide concentration of the carbonated water.

Use of mobile shading helps ameliorate heat stress of cucumber in greenhouse during summer. The mobile shading according to solar radiation may be optimal to produce high-quality cucumber in greenhouse during summer. Simultaneous comparison was made among greenhouse sections that were either not shaded or covered with reflective aluminized shadecloth that shaded 40%, or 90% of direct sunlight. Solar radiation amount, soil temperature, difference in leaf temperature and air temperature, and air temperature were lower, and relative humidity was higher as shade level increased. With increased shade level, photosynthesis rate, leaf area, fresh weight, dry weight, and number of marketable fruits increased. The mobile shading of 90% when the outer sunlight was above 650W·m<sup>-2</sup> yielded favorable growth environment in greenhouse of cucumber during summer.
Isozyme Polymorphism에 의한 무 品種 標識 鑑別 硏究

Identification of radish (Raphanus sativus) has been principally based on the phenotypes including flowering habit. As new cultivars are constantly being develped, the need for advanced and more reliable means of cultivar identification has been growing, particularly for the purpose of varietal protection and ensuring breeder's rights. This study was conducted to gather infomation on distinguishing cultivars using isozyme polymorphism by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis(PAGE). PAGE performance was markedly affected by various factors such as gel concentration, slab gel thickness, glass plate size, running time, frequency of electrode buffer use, duration of sample storage, and others. AcPH, EST(1ow pH buffer system) and PGM isozyme could be used for testing the purity of a given hybrid but were not suitable for the precise cultivar identification. Among the 11 isozymes investigated, esterase(EST, high pH buffer system) isozyme gave clear differences in banding pattern depending upon cultivars but not between individual plants within a same cultivar.

This study was performed to examine the high temperature adaptability with CO<sub>2</sub> treatment for tomato under the condition of greenhouse cultivation during summer season. The indoor condition of CO<sub>2</sub> concentrations were controlled as control, 500 ppm, and 1,000 ppm for the greenhouse with the maximum air temperature of 44℃. With the observation of VPD (vapor pressure deficit) and CWSI (crop water stress index) by leaf-air temperature difference according to CO<sub>2</sub> treatment concentration, the plants with the CO<sub>2</sub> concentration of 1,000 ppm performed less water stress than those with the CO<sub>2</sub> concentrations of control and 500 ppm. The plants without CO<sub>2</sub> treatment performed the severest degree of water stress.
