Phenomenological Analysis of Fun Experiences among College Intramural Sports Athletes

This study aimed to examine the fun experiences of the President’s Cup participants from Y University. A total of nine participants were selected from soccer, baseball, and basketball athletes who were currently participating in the intramural league through snow-ball sampling. Data was collected from interviews and the observation of the intramural sports athletes. Coding was conducted as a first step, and group categorization followed. For the validity of the study, a peer review was conducted by one leisure studies professor and two doctoral students of leisure studies. After the data analysis, the motivation for President’s Cup participation, impression changes regarding the President’s Cup, addiction to the President’s Cup, and fun factor of the President’s Cup were drawn as the results. Building interpersonal relationships, improvement of skills, and desire to participate in the event regularly were found as the sub-factors of fun experience concerning the President’s Cup.

Aims: Sodium taurocholate cotransporting polypeptide (NTCP) was identified as an entry receptor for hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. The substitution of serine at position 267 of NTCP with phenylalanine (S267F) is an Asian-specific variation that hampers HBV entry in vitro. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the prevalence of S267F polymorphism in Korean patients with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) and its association with disease progression and potential viral evolution in the preS1 domain of HBV. Methods: The prevalence of S267F polymorphism of NTCP was estimated using polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP). The preS1 domain sequence was determined by direct sequencing after PCR amplification of viral DNA and the effect of ursodeoxycholic acid on HBV infection was assessed using HepG2 cells overexpressing NTCP. Results: The frequency of the S267F variant of NTCP in CHB patients and HBsAg-seronegative individuals was 2.7% and 5.7% (p=0.031), respectively, and those who had S267F variant were less susceptible to HBV infection. The frequency of the S267F variant in CHB, cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients was 3.3%, 0.9%, and 3.5%, respectively. Thus, the S267F variant correlated significantly with a lower risk for cirrhosis (p=0.036), while there was no significant correlation with the risk for HCC (p=0.887). Sequencing preS1 domain of HBV from the patients who had S267F variant revealed no significant sequence change compared to the wild type. Conclusions: The S267F variant of NTCP is clinically associated with a lower risk of HBV infection and cirrhosis development in patients with CHB, which implicates suppressing HBV entry could reduce the disease burden.
