The purpose of this study was investigate a comparative analysis of the effects of amateur golfers' disposition of achievement goal and motives of sports participation on the sport commitment and the types of attribution, with 335 male golfers and 143 female golfers as subjects. The results are as follows.
Firstly, male golfers and female golfers showed no difference in the ego orientation and the task orientation, but the two kinds of disposition became higher with the improvement of game competence. And the greater the game competence was, the higher the level of motives of sports participation, such as pleasure, a sense of achievement, physical condition, society, ostentation, became, but no difference was revealed in the development of techniques and fitness. There was no difference in attribution types, according to sex and game competence. autotelic experience, a sense of control, and the balance of challenge and technique increased as the game competence was improved, and the male golfers had more concentration on clear goal and task than their female counterparts. However, there was no difference in the time-transforming immersion.
Secondly, for the ego-oriented disposition, the factor of a sense of achievement, among the motives of sports participation, was very influential, and for the task-oriented disposition, the factor of the development of techniques was very influential.
Thirdly, the development of techniques, among those motives, had a great influence on the autotelic experience of the immersion, and for the female golfers, the factors of fitness and pleasure had an influence on the ecstasy of the immersion. The factor of physical condition for the male golfers and the factor of fitness for the female golfers had an effect on the factor of a sense of control of the immersion. sport participation motivation was more influential on the clear goal for the male golfers, and achievement goal orientation was more influential on the clear goal for the female ones. On the concentration of the task the factors of pleasure and physical condition were highly influential, and the time-transforming immersion became higher with the strength of the factor of society. The immersion in the balance of challenge and technique became higher with the strength of the factor of pleasure for the male golfers and the level of the task-oriented disposition for the female golfers.
Lastly, sport participation motivation had a greater influence on the success attribution than achievement goal orientation did, and the same was true of the failure attribution, especially of ostentation.
