This study aimed to examine the effect of self-control training for the reduction on the internet addiction and self-control of elementary school students.
The hypotheses for the study were made as follows.
1. Self-control training would improve the self-control ability.
2. Self-control training would reduce the internet addiction.
In this study, subjects were 23 students who got 40 points over in the internet addiction test among 235 of 5th grade students in C elementary school.
The self-control program of this study had been used by Jung, Sun-Tae(2001) and Lee, Ju-Young(2002), whose programs were modified into self-control training program with a specialist's help to be suitable for elementary school students. The self-control training program consisted of 11 sessions. Each session required 50 to 60 minutes and was performed once in a week. The contents of the program consisted of 4 stages; self-monitoring, self-objective, self-evaluation, and self-reinforcement.
The design of this study was a design mixed between one test subject and one test subject, and the independent variables include both a variable between test subjects and a variable within a test subject. To know the effect of self-control training for the reduction on the internet addiction and self-control of elementary school students, this study tried to do the analysis of variables based on the pre-test, the post-test and the further test. ANOVA was used to analyse the data.
The program for statistical process was SPSS for windows 10.0 and the level of satisfaction for hypothesis testing was .05.
The result of the analysis of data collected is as follows:
The self-control training reduced internet addiction of elementary school students.
