The purpose of this study was to identify among internet addiction, social support, socio-demographic characteritics and juveniles deliquency.
Spcecific research questions were;
1. Dose socio-demographics bring differences on internet addiction and juveniles deliquency?
2. What was the relative predictive power of deliquency disposition and deliquency behaviour on internet addiction?
3. What was the relative predictive [power of deliquency disposition and deliquency behaviour on social support?
The subjects of this study involved total 581 students from middle · high school in cheong-ju city and jechun city in chungbuk province. The survey questionnaire included items regarding internet addition, social support(family support, peer support), and deliquency(deliquency disposition, deliquency behaviour).
Measurement instruments for the study were;
Internet addiction was measured by Kimberly S Young's internet addiction-related, Scale for social support; family support and peer support; family support was measured by Grant Macdonald's scale, peer support was measured by development of a social support scale, and Scale for deliquency ; deliquency disposition and deliquency behaviour, deliquency disposition was measured by Kim(1994), deliquency behaviour was measured by Kim(1994). Data by questionnaire method were analysed with descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, hierarchical multiple regression using SPSSWIN program.
Findings of this study were as follows;
First, students' majority internet more than 3 years use overwhelmingly many, students install internet in livingroom and their room , and 2 hours of internet utilization time are most a day and p.m 10-12. the house is most to utilization place. Students answered to use the internet for conversation with peer or down load to mp3 program. Service that use mainly game, chatting, information most use.
Second, 25.2% out of respondents in this research normally use the internet, while 68.5% were addictively use the internet and even 6.3% were serious internet-addicted. as a result, adolescent were likely to have more latent problems of the internet-addition.
Third, internet addiction, social support and deliquency on socio-demographics showed significant impact on internet addiction propensit according to dwelling, namely,
students living in country than in urban was high on the internet addition propensit.
Fourth, In the case of social support, the family support were middle school students than high school students. peer support were closely connected with gender and school types(middle, high school). also social support were higher male than female, and high school students than middle school students
Fifth, the relation on deliquency, deliquency propensit were higher female than male, deliquency behaviour were higher male than female, accordingly, deliquency propensit and deliquency behaviour were higher high school students than middle school students. due to study stress such as study level, entrance etc.
Sixth, internet addiction and social support such as family support, peer support showed significant impact on juvenile deliquency (propensit, behaviour).
Accordingly, such suggestions were made to effective practice.
First, We should be developed and carry out parenting education programs due to importance of parent and family functioning on the internet utilization of adolescent.
Second, We have to activated the heathy entertainment culture and space for students.
Third, We should be needed to develop and educate programs to enforce the social support, and to study effectiveness to reduce the deliquency.
Forth, this study has limited to study specific region. In addition as for the further investigation should analyse each group difference for comparative study between regional and different age .
