      The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of bibliotherapy program that used an illustrated story book on institutionalized children's self-esteem.
      For this purpose, the following hypotheses were set up.
      Hypotheses 1. Group that put into bibliotherapy program would have significant effect on the improvement of self-esteem in comparison with the other.
      1-1. Bibliotherapy program would have significant effect on the improvement of cognitive competence in a subordinate domain of self-esteem.
      1-2. Bibliotherapy program would have significant effect on the improvement of peer acceptance in a subordinate domain of self-esteem.
      1-3. Bibliotherapy program would have significant effect on the improvement of physical competence in a subordinate domain of self-esteem.
      1-4. Bibliotherapy program would have significant effect on the improvement of maternal acceptance in a subordinate domain of self-esteem.
      1-5. Bibliotherapy program would have significant effect on the improvement of self acceptance in a subordinate domain of self-esteem.
      Hypotheses 2. After executing bibliotherapy program, improvement of self-esteem of experimental group will maintain after 2weeks.
      Among fifty persons(full five years old)living in social welfare institution for children located Seoul city, ten persons were selected trough objects selection course.
      The instrument of test used in this study was Harter and Pike(1984)'s "A measure of self-respect for preschoolers of 5 or 6". It were carried out on these 10 persons as a pre-test.
      And they were selected to experimental group(3 males and 2 females) and a control group(4 males and 1 females) by five children each group. the experimental group received the bibliotherapy program, 40 minutes a time, 2 times a week, totally 10 times. the control group read identical books with bibliotherapy program, 20minutes a time, 2 times a week, totally 10 times.
      The contents of bibliotherapy program put in this study were reconstructed referring to bibliotherapy program of Kim Hyun-Hee(2003).
      After the end of bibliotherapy program, the same as pre-test, were carried out on these 10 persons as a post-test. And after 2 weeks, the experimental group were given delayed-test.
      The data collected in this study was analyzed by SPSS WINDOWS 10.0. With the use of Wilcoxon signed ranks test, the difference between the results before and after the bibliotherapy program were investigated,
      The conclusions of this study are as follows:
      The experimental group improved more significantly in total self-esteem. It also increase their cognitive competence, peer acceptance, self acceptance. But there is no noticeable effect in physical competence, maternal acceptance. The effects of bibliotherapy program on the improvement of experimental group' self-esteem were maintained after 2 weeks.
