In the 80 years’ history of the movie, the Korean movie’s achievement in the 21st century has been inspirational. The domestic movie has gained its popularity in Asia, the northern American and the Europe. Such popularity enhanced the Korean culture as well. Not surprisingly, an interest by the general public on a ceremony of awarding a prize in the film industry where many famous actors and actresses attend has been increased.
The venue for a ceremony of awarding a prize in the film industry is a place for such actors to recreate their own images or characters in the film. The public intentionally or unintentionally pays attention to such fashion style of the movie stars. Famous costume brands in and outside Korea set its sight on such public mentality, support their new products for actors attending the ceremony, and enjoy the high promotional effect.
The purpose of this study is to historically review what kind of effect a costume of such actresses who attended the ceremony for the local film festival has had on the public fashion style, to analyze the costume of the actresses attending the ceremony since 2000, and to suggest an effective costume design for the ceremony.
In order to analyze the costume of the actresses in the ceremony, firstly the current status and the history of the domestic film festivals was examined and the costume of the successive actresses was described through a general observation. In addition, for the purpose of a more systematic analysis on the ceremonial costume of the actresses, the costume of the actresses who attended the Daejong Award, the Chungryong Film Festival, and the Baeksang Arts Grand Prize held since 2000 was examined by subdividing it as silhouette, color, quality of a material, style, and detailed decoration, etc. On the basis of the result through analysis, a formative beauty on the costume of the film festival was observed and an effective costume design of the actresses for the ceremony was suggested.
As a result of analysis on the fashion of the actresses in the ceremony since 2000, a camisole top, a tube top, and a holter neckline in which a neckline, a shoulder, a sleeve, and an upper chest are exposed occupied 43% of all necklines in case of silhouette. With respect to the entire silhouette, H line was 24%, which was the largest, A line was 16%, which was the second, and a slender line, which was close to a body, was 7%, which was the third. In terms of color, black was 38% of all, which appeared mostly, white and ivory line was the second, which was 26%. As a result of an analysis on style, the style, which the actresses mostly preferred, was a feminine style and a romantic style, which occupied 23% respectively and showed the high portion of preference. A classic style also held a dominant position, which was 21%. In terms of a quality in material, silky appeared 102 times of all, which occupied more than 50%. Next, there was many a rough quality in material observed in the surface of lace or embroidery decoration. As a consequence of analyzing a definitive decoration, a decoration appeared in 50% of all. Among this, bead decoration was 18%, which was the largest. Ruffle and frill decoration for a romantic expression was 13%. And a variety of wrinkle decorations were 10%.
As a result of the above research, for the costume of the ceremony, a refined beauty in which an advanced trend is reflected, a silky quality in material which took into consideration of the elegant movement of the actresses on stage, and an elegant beauty in a silhouette close to a body were observed. Sensuous beauty discovered in a costume style in which a chest, a back, and a leg were actively exposed was one of the commonly observed characteristics in the costume of the actresses. Personality beauty gained by developing a peculiarity such as a characteristic actress and by developing one’s own feature was also analyzed as a noticeable formative beauty.
On the basis of the result obtained through a case analysis and an observation of a formative beauty in the costume of actresses in the film festival since 2000, a design for the costume of actresses in the ceremony was developed. I hope that this study will help a researcher or a designer who does research on a costume in a place or a level of society for a special purpose.
