The purpose of this study is to figure out the relation between his/her family, characteristic features and society surrounding a child and to contribute to educating her/him to get along well with others and to be a desirable social member through studying the relation between family function and a childs personality and prosocial
behaviors.
The subject of the study was 593 5th-6th graders, 288 boys and 305 girls in Seoul and Gyeong-gi Province.
To measure function of a family, FACES Ⅱ was used, which was developed by Olson(1983) and modified by Eun-jeong Lee(2000). To measure a childs personality, EPQ(Eysenck Personality Questionnaire) was used, which was made by the Eysencks(1975) and remodeled for domestic use by Hyun-soo Lee(1985). To measure prosocial behavior, Eisenbergs prosocial behavior(1989) test was used, which was modified by Su-yon Kim(1995).
The collected data were analyzed by SPSS statistical program to find the relation between independent and subject variance and multiple regression was performed to find the influence of the independent variance on the subject variance.
The results of this study are as follows;
First, concerning family function and personality for the whole children, high cohesion of a family shows high lie that the child is to eager adapt to a society and low family cohesion shows high offensive and impulsive tough mindness. High adaptability of a family shows more extraversion and lie that the child is eager to adapt to society, while low family adaptability shows high emotionality that the child is emotionally unstable.
Second, considering it based on gender, boys with high cohesion of a family is more extroversive and adaptive to society. Higher family adaptability shows high lie that the child is eager to adapt to a society, while low family adaptability shows high emotionality that the child is emotionally unstable.
Girls with high family cohesion shows high lie that the child is eager to adapt to a society, while low cohesion shows high offensive and impulsive tough mindness. Higher family adaptability shows that the child is extroversive, while low adaptability shows high emotionality that the child is emotionally unstable.
That is, for a boy-child, function of a family doesnt have any influence on tough mindness, which means boys tend to learn offensive behaviors through social admission and as inherent feature, compared to girls.
Third, concerning the relation between family function and prosocial behavior for the whole children, high cohesion and adaptability makes more prosocial behaviors.
