This study is to verify the relationship between the counseling expectation, the variables of juvenile probation's personality type, demographic trait and counselor's type. Previous studies on the counseling were mainly focusing on how the counseling expectation could effect its processes and results. But the fact that juvenile probation's personality type and their basic trait could distort or at least effect the counseling expectation. This study aims to improve the efficiency of counseling by analyzing the personality type which could influence on counselor prior to the counseling expectation and to provide the basic data for increasing the effectiveness of counseling.
The research was performed as below ;
Frist, measuring and descriptive statistical analysis were performed. One hundred and one subjects who were youths disposed of attendance center order in K probation were participated. Data were collected from January to May in 2003.
Second, questionnaires assessing demographic, EAC(Expectation About Counseling) by Tinsley(1980) and MBTI(Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) by Carl Jung were administered.
Third, statistical analysis were done by SAS(Statistical Analysis System)8.1. To verify the reliability of the measures and correlations between questionnaire items, and to find out the difference of the counseling expectation among the variables T-test and ANOVA were performed.
The results of this study is as follows ;
Frist, Significant differences between Extraversion and Introversion type, between Thinking and Feeling type, and between Judging and Perceiving type on the counseling expectation are observed.
Second, Significant differences between Expert counseling and Peer counseling are found, too.
In conclusion, the counseling expectations at counselor trait, attitude, behavior and the effect of counseling were significantly different according to the juvenile probation's personality type. This study was also important to find out preferring to the Expert counseling of the counselor type and to offer the basic data to progress the effect of the counseling.
On the basis of the result, thesis suggest an expert counseling service can be available for the juvenile probationer during probation or after finishing probation.
