The present study set the purpose on examining how and in which the state of obesity is different according to general characteristics, and the difference between the factors in the sense of self-esteem and the factors in physical satisfaciton derived from each obseity state by eliciting the potential factor structure through the physical satisfaction inspection and the self-esteem inspection, attempting to understand the degree to which the difference are associated with obesity, physical satisfaction factors, and self-esteem factors in order to obtain the basic data of obesity guidance education and health guidance on the children in school.
The study was given to the 763 healthy children(fourth-grade, 296; fifth-grade, 228; sixth-grade, 239) The new system and the survey was operated by distributing and collecting the questionnaires to the subjects from May, 1 to June, 10, in 2003. The obesity used Broca index dialectic method (clinical nutrition care instructions, 1994) as an instrument of study and the physical satisfacition inspection used written test reorganized for the elementary level by Shin Kwan Ho(1996), which Shields(1984) had been a measure developed for measurment of the satisfaction about their own each physical part and its function.
The Self-Perception Profile, which Harter(1982) had developed, was employed as the measuring tools of self-esteem. The statistical analysis method was applied to the result analysis about collected data and the statistical process was analysed using statistical package program, SPSS(ver.11.0 : SPSS Inc., 2000).
The following is analysis results.
1. The inspection of correlation coefficient meaningfulness between the obesity state and physical satisfaction indicated that p value is less than 0.05, the meaningful level in terms of all physical satisfaction about 'physical attractions', 'physical conditions', and 'phsyical strengthness'.
In other words, higer the obesity state becomes, lower the physical satisfaction about physical attractions, conditions, and strengthness becomes.
2. The inspection of correlation coefficient meaningfulness between the obesity state and the sense of self-esteem indicated that p value is less than 0.05, the meaningful level, in terms of all points about 'self-esteem in perception ability', 'self-esteem in society', 'self-esteem in physical activity', 'general self-value' etc .
In other words, it is said that higer the obesity state becomes, lower the self-esteem becomes.
3. The correlation analysis between physical satisfaction and self-esteem proved that the correlation among all factors was meaningful in the meaningful level of 0.01. The elicited correlation coefficient is within the range of 0.348~0.631, which means 'considerable relevance'
In details, while the correlation of physical attraction with 'school' and 'total', and the correlation of physical conditions with 'Society' is respectively more than 0.5, it is analysed that correlation between these relations is specially high.
