      This study was to investigate the effect of taekwondo training on the physical virtue and self-esteem of young men. The subjects of this study were 195 school students(disciplined: 93, not disciplined: 85) by use of stratified random sampling method. I used the physical virtue inspecting tools to measure the physical virtue which are adapted by Hong, Sun Ok(1996), and the Rosenberg(1965) and adapted by Bae, Se Hyun(1984). I calculated the average and the variance by each group with collected data and performed the 2-way ANOVA to verify the difference. As the result, the followings were concluded.
      1. The group disciplined the Taekwondo shows higher recognition for physical ability than the one not disciplined Taekwondo. In the students not disciplined Taekwondo, the ones in high school shows higher recognition for physical ability than the ones in middle school.
      2. In the middle school students, the group disciplined the Taekwondo shows higher self-confidence for physical espression than the one not disciplined Taekwondo. In the students not disciplined Taekwondo, the ones in high school shows higher self-confidence for physical expression than the ones in middle school.
      3. The group disciplined the Taekwondo shows more arrirmative self-esteem than the one not disciplined Taekwondo. The middle school students show more arrirmative self-esteem than the high school students.
      4. The group not disciplined the Taekwondo shows more negative self-esteem than the one not disciplined Taekwondo. The high school students show more negative self-esteem than the middle school students.
      On the base of above results, I make some propositions to increase the young man of physical virtue and self-esteem.
      First, discipline of Taekwondo leads to improving of motor sensation and physical capability, so it gives an affirmative effect on the recognition of one's body and physical virtue. Therefore, the discipline of Taekwondo for middle and high school students shall be encouraged.
      Second, the drill hall for Taekwondo shall run various programs besides oratory, personal relations, stopgap measures and emotional training to improve the young man of self-esteem and physical virtue.
