      The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the sand-box play on the self-concept and human relations of children with development disorder. The subjects in this study were the three children with development disorder in an educational institute for children with development disorder in the city of Jeonju. They had difficulties in self-concept and human relations. The sand-box play was individually conducted 24 times for 12 weeks.
      The findings of this study were as below:
      First, the sand-box play had an effect on the self-concept of the development-disorder children. That was most effective in emotional response for Child 1, followed by Child 2 and Child 3 in the order named. In self -consciousness, Child 3 made most development, followed by Child 1 and Child 2 in the order named. In self-image, Child 1 improved most, followed by Child 2 and Child 3 in the order named.
      Child 1 made the best progress in self-image, and Child 2 and Child 3 made most development in self-directed behavior.
      Second, the sand-box play was effective for the human relations of the children with development disorder.
      In other-consciousness, Child 1 advanced most, followed by Child 2 and Child 3 in the order named. Child 3 made most progress in responding to others, followed by Child 1 and Child 2 in the order named. In leading interaction, Child 3 improved most, followed by Child 2 and Child 1 in the order named. In social norm, Child 1 made most development, followed by Child 2 and Child 3 in the order named. In sensitivity to others, Child 2 advanced most, followed by Child 3 and Child 1 in the order named. In social values, Child 1 made most progress, followed by Child 3 and Child 2 in the order named.
      Child 1 made the best improvement in social norm area, and Child 2 and Child 3 made the best progress in sensitivity to others.
      Therefore, the sand-box play could be regarded as one of the educational methods that affected the self -concept and human relations of the children with development disorder.
