This study has an aim to find out relation between mothers' rearing attitudes and self-concept in childhood in order to clarify what has effects on sociality in the age of adolescence.
Specifically, with applying the model of a structural equation, I'll confirm that self-concept in childhood is located intermediately between mothers' rearing attitudes in babyhood and sociality in adolescence, and it is intervening back and forth periods.
Materials for this study are part of things called 'A Longitudinal Study of Korean Children' that Korea Behavior Science Institute has collected since 1975, specifically adopted from 3 to 18 full years' ones.
In addition, as materials for analysis, I made an use of mothers' rearing attitudes examined when 3 and 6 full years old each, testing tool for self-concept measured by children themselves when 7 and 10 full years each, and testing tool for sociality in adolescence when 18 full years.
Through the whole study, I obtained such results as following.
First, when it comes to co-relation between mothers' rearing attitudes and socialities in adolescence, it shows that mothers' rejective rearing attitudes and leadership of socialities in adolescence have a negative relation each other.
Second, with regarding co-relation between mothers' rearing attitudes in babyhood and children's self-concept, it is indicated that they have an affirmative relation with mothers' worm rearing and yet have a negative relation with mothers' rejective rearing.
Third, in a co-relation between child's self-concept and sociality, sociability is correspondingly higher among socialities in adolescence when 7 and 10 full years as social self becomes higher.
And also among the self-concept when 7 full years, the children who had higher self satisfaction and self esteem showed higher leadership and sociability among socialities in adolescence when 18 full years, and not being exactly same, when 10 full years they showed an approximately affirmative result with stability.
Forth, as a result of close examination with a use of structural equation for ascertaining an intermediate effect by the model of structural equation, mothers' rearing attitudes when their child was 3 full years didn't affect any sociality in adolescence when 18 full years. And mothers' rearing attitudes when their child 3 full years didn't have an effect on child's self-concept when 7 full years.
Therefore by above results, I couldn't catch the intermediate effect of child's self-concept, but I only could learn that child's self-concept when 7 full years has some effects on sociality in adolescence, so I could draw a result that the more affirmative child's self-concept might be, the higher sociality in adolescence could be.
Fifth, by the model of structural equation, mothers' rearing attitudes when the child was 6 full years didn't significant affect sociality in adolescence when 18. Besides, mothers' rearing attitudes when their child was 6 full years did meaningful affect the self-concept when 7, and also the self-concept in babyhood affected sociality in adolescence.
So it is ascertained that the self-concept in childhood plays an intermediate role between mothers' rearing attitudes and sociality in adolescence.
Summarily above results, it's implied that mothers' rearing attitudes and self-concept in childhood can be consequential environmental variable factors, and self-concept in childhood is playing an essential intermediate role between mothers' rearing attitudes and sociality in adolescence.
Therefore mothers' rearing attitudes in babyhood affect the self-concept in childhood and self-concept in childhood also affect sociality in adolescence, but mothers' rearing attitudes don't affect sociality in adolescence firsthand.
And through this results, we need to regard self-concept as an intermediate specially looking into the relation between rearing attitudes and sociality.
This study is using a kind of newly attempted method in the field of Human Development in Korea that has never tried to vary methods for longitudinal analysis.
Besides this, clarifying validity of the model of the structural equation by analyzing it, this study can be helpful to make an real understanding for development of sociality in adolescence and relevant variables.
