    The purpose of this study was to explore the relationships among 5-year-old children's popularity, self-regulation, perspective taking ability and to investigate if there is any difference in each factor according to gender.
    The following questions were posed in the research:
    1. Is there any difference in 5-year-old children's popularity, self-regulation, perspective taking ability according to gender?
    2. Is there any difference in 5-year-old children's perspective taking ability according to popularity?
    3. Is there any difference in 5-year-old children's perspective taking ability according to self-regulation?
    The subjects of this study were 150 children, 5 years of age who were selected from 2 kindergartens located in Gyeonggi-do. Children's popularity was measured by peer rating scale. Children's self- regulation was measured with a Self -Regulation Rating Scale developed by Kendall & Wilcox(1979). Children's perspective taking ability was assessed with a modified measure developed by Hudsom, Forman & Brion(1982).
    The study results were as follows:
    1. There was a statistically significant difference in young children's popularity, self-regulation in accordance with gender. There was a statistically significant difference in young children' s affective perspective taking in accordance with gender but statistically no significant difference in young children's intention perspective taking and thought perspective taking in accordance with gender.
    2. There was a statistically significant difference in young children's thought perspective taking and affective perspective taking in accordance with popularity of the peer ratings but statistically no significant difference in young children's intention perspective taking in accordance with popularity.
    3. There was a statistically significant difference in young children's affective perspective taking in accordance with self-regulation of the teacher ratings but statistically no significant difference in young children's intention perspective taking and thought perspective taking in accordance with self - regulation.
