The right to satisfy one's desire without violating another's right is a paradigm of symbiosis which is essential to mankind living together. So education should establish the harmonious relationship between human and nature and this kind of education should be started in early childhood. Besides, it was generally accepted that the important factor influencing on children's education their parents and teachers. Therefore, this study was to investigate and compare parent's and teacher's perception about early childhood education of the respect for life.
For this purpose, the study questions were as follows.
First, is there any difference in basic perception of education of the respect for life between the subject groups?
Second, is there any difference in the sense of the value about the 'life', 'ecosystem', and 'universe' between the subject groups?
Third, is there any difference in evaluation about education of the respect for life in early childhood between the subject groups?
Forth, is there any difference in perception on the role and educational direction of early childhood education of the respect for life between the subject groups?
For this purpose, this study used quantitative survey. The subjects were 122 parents and 116 teachers of 3, 4, and 5 year-old children who were attending kindergartens and day care centers in Seoul and Julabuk-do.
To analyze the data, t-test, paired t-test, chi-square, one-way ANOVA, Tukey post test and Pearson Correlation Coefficient were used.
The main results of this study were as follows.
First, parent's and teacher's educational level was major important variable which showed significant difference in basic perception of education of the respect for life. Also at the results of the difference between the subject groups, the perception level of parents was higher than that of parents.
Second, parent's and teacher's educational level was major important variable which showed significant difference in the sense of the value about the 'life', 'ecosystem', and 'universe' but there was no significant difference between the subject groups.
Third, there was no significant difference in evaluation about items of the education of the respect for life in early childhood between the subject groups. They agreed that the items such as no dumping or pick up sweepings at recreation facilities, the protection of environment about returning to life our 'soil, water and air', plant trees, prevent forest fires, the importance of partnership with peers in community, the protection of environment about the utilization of waste materials or recycling and the protection of nature with a walk, an outing, and a field trip naturally help infants to understand themselves to 'lifeism'.
Forth, parents and teachers were more conceptual on in the future than in the past in role perception and perception about educational direction of childhood education of the respect for life. They agreed that the religion plays an important role in education of respect for the life. They also agreed that new programs and supplements were in needs. for early childhood education of the respect for life. In conclusion, life-oriented education is dedicated to helping young children experience their oneness and harmony with all 'Life'.
