The purpose of this study is to examine the effect of story structure on children's recall and comprehension of story according to information processing style.
For sampling the subject of this study, Korean version K-ABC Intelligence Test(Moon, Soo-Back, et al, 1997)was conducted 65 children aged 5 who were attending I kindergarten in Taegu City.
As the result of this test, 15 children of sequential processing style and 15 children of simultaneous processing style were sampled randomly. And the two groups were divided into 6 test groups(each group with 5 children).
As for test tool, 2 stories, which were unfamiliar with children. Each stories was developed into 3 types according to story structure(causal structure, sequential structure, unconnected structure).
Story of each structure was presented to each of children who was sequential processing style and simultaneous processing style with recording form one by one.
As a test for measuring the degree of children comprehension of story, a total of questions; 4 questions from Choi, Yun-Kyung's (1995) Story Comprehension Test Scale and 6 questions from the Test Scale that the researcher of this study produced.
Data was analyzed by MANCOVA according t o problems.
Followings are the results of this study:
Firstly, after verifying statistical significant of principal effect of story structure, there was no significant difference among three story structures in children's fact recall and constructional recall, fact comprehension of story but in case of reasoning comprehension, the children, to whom causal structure story was presented, got statistically higher grades than the others, to whom sequential structure story was presented.
Secondly, after verifying statistically significance of principal effect of information processing style, there was no significant difference between sequential processing style and simultaneous processing style in fact recall of story, but in case of constructional recall of story and reasoning comprehension, the children group of processing style got statistically higher grades than the children group of sequential processing style. And i n case of fact comprehension, the children group of sequential processing got statistically higher grads than the children group of simultaneous processing style.
thirdly, after verifying statistical significance of interactive between story structure and information processing style of children, there were no statistically significant interactive effects in all two areas of story recall and story comprehension, that is, fact recall, constructional recall, fact comprehension and reasoning comprehension.
