20세기 의복 스타일과 신발의 관계분석 = (A) Study of Relations between Clothing and Shoes in the 20th century fashion

국문 초록 (Abstract)

본 연구의 목적은 20세기 의복 스타일의 변화에 따른 신발 디자인의 변화를 고찰하여 이 둘 사이의 관계를 분석하는데 있다.
고대부터 현재까지 신발은 인간 생활의 필수적 요소로 자리잡아 왔다. 고대에는 의복과 신발이 기후적, 지형적 영향을 받았으며 의복의 유형에 따라 다르게 착용되었음을 관찰할 수 있었다. 중세에는 종교적 영향과 아시아의 영향이 복식에 반영되어 나타났고, 신발에도 이 영향이 풀렌느라는 특이한 형태로 나타났다. 근세에는 의복과 신발에 동일한 장식(슬래쉬와 보석)이 사용되었음을 볼 수 있었고, 근대에는 혁명의 영향으로 과거의 화려했던 장식적인 요소들이 배제되어 의복과 신발이 단순한 형태로 나타났다.
그러나 20세기에 들어서자 스커트 길이가 짧아지면서 신발이 드러나게 되어 그 형태, 소재, 색, 장식에 있어서 의복과 관련을 가지면서 매우 빠른 속도로 발전하게 되었다. 20세기 전반기의 세계대전은 의복을 경제적인 스타일로 변하게 하였고 이에 따라 신발도 활동성과 경제성을 고려한 형태로 변화하게 하였다.
20세기 중반에는 매스미디어의 발달로 인해 스타의 패션이 의복과 신발의 유행에 영향을 주었고, 패션의 흐름을 주도한 세력인 젊은이들이 편안하고 활동적인 의복을 선호함에 따라 신발도 편안한 형태로 변화하여 스니커즈가 많이 신겨졌으며, 플랫폼 창이 여러 신발에 응용되었다.
이를 바탕으로 20세기에 착용된 의복스타일과 신발의 관계를 형, 색, 소재, 장식으로 분류해 구체적으로 살펴보았다.
의복스타일과 신발의 형(形)에 있어 펌프스는 힐이 높을수록, 굽의 모양이 가늘고 길수록 샌들은 스트랩이 가늘수록, 발등의 노출이 클수록, 힐의 높이가 높을수록 엘레강스 스타일과 매치되었다. 또한 에스닉 스타일에는 로힐 펌프스와 앵클 스트랩 샌들이 주로 착용되었다. 부츠는 하의의 길이가 부츠 길이에 영향을 주었고, 브로그와 로퍼가 형태적인 변화가 없었음에 비해 스니커즈는 다양한 의복 스타일에 조화를 이루면서 디자인이 다양해졌다.
의복과 신발의 색(色)에 있어 펌프스와 샌들은 엘레강스 스타일과 에스닉 스타일에는 유사색을, 액티브 스타일에는 대비색을 이용하였다. 부츠는 유사색을 이용한 경우 플랫폼창의 경우처럼 키가 커보이는 착시효파와 함께 부드러운 이미지를 주었고, 대비색의 경우 활동성과 함께 복식에 있어서 포인트의 역할을 하였다. 브로그와 로퍼는 유사색을 이용하거나 의복의 색보다 조금 어두운 색을 이용함으로써 편안함을 부각시킨 반면에 스니커즈는 유사색, 대비색을 적절히 이용함으로써 다이나믹함을 보였다. 스니커즈는 20세기 후반으로 가면서 액티브 스타일은 물론 포멀 스타일의 의복에도 착용되었다.
의복과 신발의 소재(素材)에 있어 펌프스와 샌들은 의복과 동일 소재를 이용하여 엘레강스 스타일이나 에스닉 스타일에 착용됨으로써 세련된 우아함을 보였고 가죽은 포멀 스타일, 밀리터리 스타일, 액티브 스타일에 매치되었다. 또한 에나멜은 전시경제에 이상적인 신발 소재로 이용된 이래로 20세기 전반에 걸쳐 꾸준히 이용되고 있다. 부츠는 길이가 길수록 부드러운 소재를 이용했으며, 브로그는 액티브 스타일에는 에나멜이나 직물을, 포멀 스타일에는 가죽과 에나멜로 제작된 것을 착용챘다. 스니커즈는 캔버스, 합성피혁, 신소재 등을 이용하였으며, 20세기 후반으로 가면서 의복과 조화를 이름에 있어 소재의 고급화로 매치되기도 하였다. 반면 로퍼는 의복 스타일과는 관계없이 대부분 가죽이나 직물을 이용 하였다.
의복과 신발의 장식에 있어 리본끈이나 보석이 장식된 펌프스는 엘레강스 스타일의 의복에, 간단한 버튼이나 작은 리본이 장식된 펌프스는 포멀 스타일의 의복에 이용되었다. 샌들은 코사지, 보석, 끈 장식을 이용함으로써 로맨틱 스타일과 매치되는 경향을 보였다. 브로그와 스니커즈는 주로 끈 장식을 많이 이용하였고, 특히 스니커즈는 끈으로 묶는 것뿐만 아니라 벨크로를 부착하여 활동적인 면에 기능성을 부여했다. 로퍼는 캐주얼한 의복 스타일과 함께 태슬, 스트랩, 금속 체인과 같은 단순한 형의 장식을 다양하게 부착하였다.
이를 종합해보면 의복 스타일에 따라 신발의 디자인이 변화하였음을 알 수 있었다.
현재 신발의 기능성에 관련된 연구는 매우 활빌한 반면, 디자인과 관련된 연구는 미비한 것이 현실이다. 신발이 의복과 함께 착용되고, 따로 분리되어 생각 될 수는 없다는 점을 고려한다면 의복과 신발의 관계에 관한 연구가 앞으로 지속적으로 이루어졌으면 하는 바램이다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

This study is for analyzing relations between clothing and shoes design in the 20th century fashion through studying changes of fashion Style.
In the ancient time, clothes and shoes were influenced from weather and climate:inflected the influences of religion and oriental culture in the middle ages. In the modern ages, it was found that the same ornaments were used for clothes and shoes:in the recent times, clothes and shoes became simple because of eliminating gorgeous ornamentations under influence of French revolution.
However, beginning of the 20th century, the length of skirts became shorten, so that shoes can be shown. For the result of that, shoes has been developed rapidly in its shape, color, material and ornament with having relations with clothes. The lst World War made fashion to change into economical style. According to that, shoes also changed with regarding its activities and economical efficiency. In the middle of the 20th century, according to the development of mass media, the stars fashion influenced on the trends of clothes and shoes. As young generation, who leads fashion trends, prefer easy and active clothes, shoes also changed into easy style, sneakers were worn widely and platform sole was app1ied into various shoes.
Based on above, this study analyzed relations between clothing and shoes of 20th century fashion by classifying them into style, color, material, and ornament.
In the fashion style and shape of shoes, elegance style was matched with higher & slimmer heeled pumps and thinner strapped, the more exposed instep, higher and thinner heeled sandals. Also, low heeled pumps and ankle strapped sandal were worn for ethnic style clothes.
The length of skirts and trousers influenced on the length of boots. In the contrast of no changes of brougues and loafers, sneakers designs became more various in harmonizing with various fashion styles.
In the colors of clothes and shoes, pumps and sandals adapted similar colors in elegance style and ethnic style, and contrast colors in active style clothes.
For the materials of clothes and shoes, pumps and sandals showed polished elegance image by using same materials with clothes though wearing in elegance style and ethnic style clothes. Leather was matched with formal style, military style, or active style clothes. Softer materials were used for longer boots, enamel or fabric was used for active style brougues, and leather and enamel were used for formal style brougues. For snickers, mainly canvas, Synthetic leather, and a new material were used.
For the ornament of clothes and shoes, pumps with ribbon or jewelry were worn for elegance style clothes:pumps with simple button or little ribbon were worn for formal style clothes. Through decorating corsages, jewelry and strip, sandals were matched with romantic style clothes. Brougues and snickers were mainly decorated with strip. Especially, snickers provided functional efficiency by attaching velcro not only tying by strips. On loafers, simple ornaments such as tassel, strap, and metal chain were matched with casual style clothes.
As a result of this study, shoes design was dynamically changed according to fashion style. The study on its functional efficiency is actively studied now however, the study of shoes design is not. When regarding shoes were always worn with clothes, it is impossible to think shoes and clothes are two things, and also I hope the study on relations between clothes and shoes can be more active and consistently implemented.
