This study aims to understand life satisfaction level of the elderly, the difference of satisfaction level in terms of the diverse specific property of the elderly, to analyze affecting factors on life satisfaction, and finally to propose social work practice plans to improve life satisfaction level of the elderly.
For this purpose, individual and environmental factors are selected as major factors affecting life satisfaction level of the elderly then their influences are manifested, and at the same time, suggestions are made to improve elderly's life satisfaction.
Conclusions from the research are as follows;
First, life satisfaction level in term of demographic specific property is high when spousal exist, when having religion, when age was lower, when education level was higher, when self recognizing health status was good and finally when income level was high.
Second, life satisfaction level in terms of psychological characteristic is high when social isolation and death anxiety is low and when self-esteem is high.
Third, the social participation factor has leisure activity, voluntary activity and important in the sequence.
Fourth, home environment factor has perceptual economic level, family relationship and influence in the sequence.
Fifth, community factor has social support, concern of community and residents living status and also affect in the sequence.
And proposed social work practice plans to improve elderly's life satisfaction level based on these research are as follows:
First, shot-term plans are professional counseling network for preventing social isolation, the whole life education and its facilities for activating elderly's social activities, regular sport program, reemployment support program, education for family relationship improvement, and finally concern and financial support from a branch of administration to support these programs.
Second, lone-term plans are governmental policies such as research of fundamental-needs for elderly's life satisfaction, self-sustenance program, support program for social-resource-network, aged lecturer bank, elderly's welfare card system.
Third, distribution and activation of welfare facilities for elderly's to increase social integration and interest and additional education program are required to expand the interest of the people about the elderly nation-widely such as courses for young generation to help understand characteristics of aged in public/private education systems.
In the end, the total service, synthetic works of social practice plans suggested by this study, will support the elderly to improve physical health condition, to help financial independency, to maximize life satisfaction level, to feel self-esteem and to find new roles in society, to prevent social isolation and eventually will enhance their life quality.
