신문자료를 활용한 문제해결 학습이 초등 경제교육에 미치는 효과

국문 초록 (Abstract)

초등학교 사회과에서 이루어지는 경제교육은 학생들이 급변하는 사회ㆍ경제환경에 능동적으로 적응하고 실생활에서 당면하는 여러 경제문제를 합리적인 의사결정 과정을 통하여 해결할 수 있도록 도움을 주어야 한다. 본 연구에서는 초등학생들이 경제에 대한 깊은 관심과 이해를 바탕으로 건전한 소비생활을 할 수 있도록 다양하고 적절한 교수ㆍ학습 방법을 이용하여 학습자료를 개발하고 구안 활용하였다.
신문은 우리 생활에 필수적인 정보의 근원으로 인정받고 있으며 교육적인 활용 가치가 크다고 평가받고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 신문자료를 경제교육 단원의 교수ㆍ학습 자료로 활용하여 수업을 전개하면 경제교육에 효과적일 것이라는 전제하에 실험집단을 대상으로 그 타당성을 입증하고 효과를 밝혀 보려는 데 연구의 목적을 두고 있다.
본 연구의 목적을 달성하기 위한 연구절차는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 초등학교 4학년 사회과 경제교육 단원 내용과 일선 학교 경제교육 학습자료 활용 실태를 분석하고, 둘째, 다양한 사회과 경제교육 학습자료 개발의 필요성과 신문자료를 수집ㆍ분류ㆍ재편집하여 학습자료로 제작ㆍ활용하는 방법을 밝히고, 셋째, 교재로 만든 신문자료를 문제해결학습 구성논리에 따른 경제수업에 활용하여 그 효과를 검증하였다.
연구 범위는 4학년 1학기 '2단원 우리 시ㆍ도의 발전하는 경제'와 4학년 2학기 '3단원 가정의 경제 생활'로 설정하였다. 실험 집단에는 신문자료를 활용한 문제 해결식 경제교육을 실시하였으며, 비교 집단에는 교과서를 중심으로 한 교사 주도형 설명식 경제교육을 실시하였다.
실험상의 효과를 검증하기 위해, 먼저 실험 집단의 학생들을 대상으로 설문지를 통해 신문자료를 활용한 경제교육에 대한 인식과 반응을 살펴보았고, 다음으로 실험 집단과 비교 집단의 경제교육 단원 학업 성취도를 비교 분석하였다.
본 실험 연구를 통하여 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다.
첫째, 신문자료를 활용한 경제교육을 실시한 실험 집단의 설문지 분석 결과 학생들이 다양한 경제관련 신문자료를 수집·분류·재편집하여 학습활동에 활용하는 과정 속에서 학습 참여도가 높아지고 경제 문제에 대한 관심과 이해가 점차로 증가하고 있다는 것을 알 수 있다. 또 학생들은 다양한 경제 관련 신문자료를 활용하여 기본적인 경제지식과 문제해결 능력을 습득할 수 있었고, 신문자료를 학습지로 구성하여 수업을 전개함으로써 현장의 경제교육 자료의 부족 문제를 해결하는데 기여하였다.
둘째, 경제교육 연구 단원에 대한 학업 성취 수준을 측정한 결과, 실험 집단의 성적이 비교집단보다 9.12점 높게 나타났으며, 통계적으로 두 집단 사이에 유의한 차이를 보였다. 따라서 경제교육을 효율적으로 하기 위해서는 다양하고 유용한 경제교육 교수·학습자료의 개발ㆍ활용에 대한 관심과 노력이 필요하다.
위와 같은 결과는 경제 문제에 대한 다양한 정보제공이 경제교육에 대한 이해를 높이는데 기여하며, 신문자료를 교재로 재구성하여 전개한 문제 해결식 수업이 교과서 위주의 설명식 경제교육보다 학업 성취도 향상에 위한 효과적인 학습 방법임을 시사한다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

Economy Education, in Social Studies of Primary School, should help students to encounter the rapidly-changing society and economic environment with positive attitude and help them to have a problem-solving ability through a reasonable decision-making process of various economic problem in their real lives. In this study, a desirable teaching-learning method was designed and testified for students to live with the attitude of economical consumption, based on their deep interest and understanding of recent economy.
Newspapers is being accepted as a necessary information source in our lives and evaluated as a valuable one in the adaptation of education. In this report, under the premise that if newspaper materials are used in the economy class as teaching-learning ones the materials will be very effective, I would like to enlighten the appropriateness and effectiveness of newspaper materials in the target of the experimental group.
In order to get the goal of this research, the procedures are as follows.
First step is to analyze the content of economy education and the adaptation of studying materials on economy education in the Social Studies of 4th grade in Primary School.
Second one is to enlighten the necessity of developing various studying materials in the class of economy and to change newspapers into studying materials through collection, classification, and re-edition.
The third is to use the newspaper materials in terms of problem-solving principle and to testify the effectiveness of them.
The area of this study is limited to Chapter 2 "Developing Economy in Our City and Province" in the first semester of 4th grade and Chapter 3 "Economy Life at Home" in the second semester of 4th grade. In the experimental group, we have made an emphasis of the problem-solving strategy using newspaper materials in the economy class. In the comparative group, the teacher-centered class focusing on the explanation of text book was done in the class.
In order to testify the experimental effectiveness, the questionnaire was first used to find out students' perception and response about the economy education using newspaper materials. Then, the contrastive analysis about the learning achievement was made between experimental group and comparative one.
The results of experimental group are like below.
First, the results of experimental group using newspaper materials have shown that in the procedure of the collection, classification, re-edition, and the application of newspapers including economy-related articles to their learning of economy classes students have more often taken part in the classes and increased their interest and understanding of economic problems. In the view of students' responses, they could achieve the basic economic knowledge and problem-solving ability related with their common lives. Teachers have to make newspaper materials into suitable ones for learning, so that they can contribute to solve the lack of economy teaching materials.
Second, the result of academic achievements between the experimental and comparative group shows that the grade of the one is 9.12 higher than that of the other. Statistically, there is a prominent difference between them. Therefore, the teachers' interest and endeavor about the various and suitable teaching and learning materials is thought to be needed for the most effective Economy education.
These results of experiments' enhance the understanding of economy education through the various information about economic problems. Problem-solving class with reconstruction of newspaper materials is thought to be a more effective way than text-oriented class focused on the explanation.
In conclusion, it has been proved in the Social Studies of Primary School that making newspaper materials including information on the field of economy into reconstructed and adaptable ones is one of the effective ways to achieve the goal of economy education.
