The purpose of this study is to examine the changes of negative emotion from perfectionists and non-perfectionists after stressful experiences. In order to experiment with this researches, we selected 45 perfectionists and 22 non-perfectionists from 542 undergraduate students by using Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale and measured the changes of negative emotion caused by stressful experiences after we classified them as four kinds of groups; introversive self-oriented perfectionists, extraversive self-oriented perfectionists, introversive socially prescribed perfectionists and extraversive socially prescribed perfectionists according to the level of perfectionism and the type of their personality among selected perfectionists.
The followings are the finding of this study.
First, the group of perfectionism showed more negative emotion, especially anger degree, after stressful experiences, but showed no increase of anxiety and depression degree.
Second, self-oriented perfectionists proved much more negative emotion than socially prescribed perfectionists, especially in depression degree.
Third, self, self-oriented perfectionists showed more depression degree than socially prescribed perfectionists after stressful experiences.
Fourth, there were no differences between introversive and extraversive perfectionists after stressful experiences.
In the result, there is more possibility of suffering from negative emotion in perfectionists, more self-oriented perfectionists have more negative emotion and depression than socially prescribed perfectionists after stressful experiences. And perfectionists showed there were no differences in the level and the degree of negative emotion between extra-introversion type of personality after stressful experiences.
