As people's living standards improves, the number of alienated individuals or groups increaseS. Thus, more counseling volunteers are required to help or support those individuals or groups. In order to motivate the counseling volunteers more, it may well be necessary to review their motivation factors or their compensation and basic needs and thereby, take concrete measures to more motivate them.
With such a basic conception in mind, this study was aimed at examining counseling volunteers' needs depending on their individual characteristics and service attitudes, and thereby, determining the relationship between their needs and job satisfaction.
To this end, counseling volunteers' activities were surveyed, their individual job conditions and needs were analyzed, and thereupon, reform measures to more motivate them were explored, while basic data useful to organization and management of counseling volunteers were contructed.
For this study, the following hypotheses were established to be tested;
First, counseling volunteers' activities would be surveyed in the light of their individual behavioral characteristics to determine the effects of such activities and characteristics on their job attitudes.
Second, counseling volunteers' needs would be examined depending on their behavioral characteristics and activities to determine the relationship between their needs and job attitudes.
Third, the relationship between counseling volunteers' needs and job satisfaction would be anlyzed.
Based on the findings from this study, it was conceived that the following points should be taken into consideration to help counseling volunteers sustain their job.
First, such demographic variables as age, marital status and occupation need to be taken into consideration. Namely, those volunteers who are older, married and have a stable occupation tend more to be positive in their counseling volunteer job.
Second, those single young students tend to show some egoistic attitude, while old people, housewives or commuters tend to be altruistic in their counseling job. Since the voluntary counseling job requires an altruistic attitude, such a trait may well be taken into consideration when recruiting or selection counseling volunteers.
Third, there are personal variables which varies depending on counseling volunteers' individual characteristics. Although their individual needs vary depending on age, academic background, occupation, volunteer career, voluntary service time or attitude, they want much to respond to other people's expectation. In other words, their desire of some social exchanges is very strong, and so such a desire needs to be managed properly.
