The purpose of this study were to study factors that affect job retention for the worker with disability and ultimately to suggest more effective ways of vocational rehabilitation services. The factors that affect job retention were classified with psychological factors, job-related factors, work environment factors and social factors.
The subjects in this study were 161, from 20 to 44 years old. They had registered in Korea Employment Promotion Agency for the Disabled(KEPAD)from 1999 to 2001 and been employed more than once.
A total of 161 (48.05%) usable surveys were returned by mail, after which they were analyzed using frequency analysis and t-test, ANOVA, chi-square, Regression methods. All the analyses were completed using a computerized Statistical Analysis System (SAS) ver 8.2.
The results of study were as following:
First, the factors that affect the duration of job retention for the worker with disability were job-related factors and work environment factors, the subjects who had employed.
Second, the subjects who had employed over one year revealed more positive characteristics in job retention factors.
Third, age, education, married status, main income earner, cause of disabilities affect the duration of job retention.
Finally, the suggestions are as follows:
First, These results suggest that the more effective vocational rehabilitation services are necessary in job conditions than personal conditions.
Second, The subjects who retain their jobs less than one year need to develop their ability and skills through job training and education.
Third, To help the workers with disability retain their jobs longer, the improvement of job condition and the social cognitions.
