The purpose of this study was to find out the level of stress and the need of social welfare service, the relationship of welfare service need with stress type, the factor that affect welfare service need in stroke patients, and to provide materials for the establishment of successful rehabilitative session program. For the examination of the study, the literature research and the survey with questionnaire were used.
A questionnaire survey was carried out from jury 16, 2001 to september 15, 2001 through a hospital and social community center in Kyungbuk, Kyungnam and Daegu, Korea. Among 194 stoke subjects, 158 stroke subjects, who were adequate for the purpose of this study, were analyzed. The collected data was analyzed by SPSS for windows package. Analysis of data done by means of descriptive analysis, t-test, One-way ANOVA, stepwise multiple regression.
The results of this study were summarized as follows.
First, the highest stress level of stroke patients was felt as social stress, followed by personal stress and inter-familial stress.
Second, the highest need among social welfare service of stroke patients was education for patients, need for social adaptive education service, family education and consultation service, vocational education service, and nursing service in order.
Third, the level of stress according to general characteristic and handicapped characteristic are as follows:
1) In the level of stress according to general characteristic, the extent inter-familiar stress and age were statistically significant (p<.05): the extent social stress and sex were statistically significant(p<.05).
2) In the level of stress according to handicapped characteristic, the personal stress and the number of attack, physical appearance were statistically significant(p<.05): the extent inter-familiar stress and physical appearance were statistically significant(p< 05): the extent social stress and physical appearance were statistically significant(p<.05).
Forth, the need for social welfare service according to general characteristic and handicapped characteristic are as follows:
1) In the extent of need for social welfare service according general characteristic, the extent of need for patient education and marriage state were statistically significant (p<.05); the extent of need for family education and consultation service according to monthly income and age were statistically significant(p<.05): the extent of need for nursing service and sex were statistically significant(p<.OS): the extent of need for vocational education according to marriage state and age were statistically significant(p<.05): the extent of need for vocational education according to marriage state and age were statistically significant(2) In the extent of need for social welfare service according to handicapped characteristic, the extent of need for patient education service, nursing service and vocational education service according to physical appearance were statistically significant(p<.05)
2) In the extent of need for social welfare service according to handicapped characteristic, the extent of need for patient education service, nursing service and vocational education service according to physical appearance were statistically significant(p<.05)
3) In the extent of need for social welfare service according to the factor of stress, the extent of need for patient education service and personal stress were statistically significant(p<.05); the extent of need for patient education service, nursing service, social adaptive education service and vocational education service according to social stress were statistically significant(p<.05).
Fifth, the relationships between the characteristic of stroke patient and the need for social welfare service are as follows:
The relationships between the need for patient education service and the personal stress, need for family education and consultation service and inter-familiar stress, the need for nursing service and personal stress, the need for social adaptive education service and social stress, the need for vocational education service and social stress were higher than others.
Sixth, in stroke patients, predictive variable of the need for social welfare service are as follows:
The personal stress factor was the most predictive variable of the need for patient education service and nursing service; the inter-familiar stress factor was most predictive variable of the need for family education and consultation service; the social stress factor was the most predictive variable of the need for social adaptive education service and vocational education service.
