The study about the characteristics of phonological processes to children between age 3 to 4 years old.
The purpose of this study is find out the characteristic of phonological processes on the normal children age 3 to 4 years old and also compare between two ages group in characteristics of phonological processes. By doing this we can provide basic informations about a child who has problem with phonological system.
20 subjects were chosen between age 3 to 4 years old in Daegu and Kyeoungbuk area.
We first look at the characteristic of phonological processes on the children in age 3 and 4 years old and later we compare the omission, addition, and substitution according to their age. we analyzed this by using phonological processes table.
The results are as following.
First, in the characteristic of phonological processes the subject of 3 years old had showed the highest rate of 7.6% in liquids omissions, and 7.5% in palatal fronting, 4.82% in middle final omission, 4.55% in stopping, in 4.54% laxing, 3.96% in alveolar and 3.21% in nasal assimilation.
Second, in the characteristic of phonological processes the subject of 4years old had showed the highest rate of 3.25% in liquids omissions and 3.25% in deaspiration, 3.06% in middle final omission, 2.1 in alveolar omission, 1.95% in nasal assimilation, 1.13% in nasalization.
Third, there were big difference in middle final omission, liquids omissions, glottal omission from omission process in phonological processes, for 3 and 4 years old but in statistically it did not make significant difference.
In substitutions process, there were make difference on stopping, frication, palatal fronting, alveolization, glottal fronting, bilabial backing, velar fronting, stop assimilation, alveolar assimilation, nasal assimilation, frication, and laxing.
In statistically, there were make difference on stopping, frication, palatal fronting, velar fronting, bilabial backing, alveolization, stop assimilation, laxing, and aspiration.
