현대 패션에 나타난 카키색 연구 = (The) study on khaki color displayed in the modern fashion

국문 초록 (Abstract)

색채는 시각적 즐거움을 통해 우리의 삶을 풍요롭게 하는 결정적 요소이며, '문화의 시대'로 진입한 21세기에 각 문화의 표면에서 그 성격을 제시하는 가장 중요한 수단으로 이용되고 있다.
이에 반해 색채에 대한 연구가 적(赤), 청(靑), 녹(綠), 황(黃), 백(白), 흑(黑) 등과 같은 기본색상에 대해서만 이루어지고 있어 그 외의 색상은 사회 일반에 보편화되어 쓰이고는 있으나 색에 대한 소통과 이해가 어려운 것이 현실이다.
본 연구는 사회 일반에서 색의 전달이 가장 어렵다고 할 수 있는 카키색을 주제로 삼아 조사, 분석함으로서 카키색에 대한 인식을 바르게 하고자 한다.
먼저 일반적 고찰에서 '흙먼지'의 색에서 출발한 카키색의 정의를 내리고 본 연구에서 사용될 카키색의 범위를 규정지었다. 그리고 카키색을 내는 염료들을 천연염료 중 식물염료에서 살펴보았고 설문조사 결과와 배색 사전을 통해 인식과 선호에 따른 특성과 중간색으로서의 카키색의 특성을 제시하였다.
카키색의 이미지와 상징성에서는 카키색의 기본적 이미지들을 살펴본 후 지역과 인명, 동물, 향신료 등으로 상징되는 카키색에 대해 고찰하였으며 자연과 회화 등에서 나타난 활용사례를 조사, 분석하였다.
이를 바탕으로 현대 패션에 나타난 카키색의 조형미를 알아보기 위해 2000s/s∼2003f/w시즌 동안 파리, 밀라노, 뉴욕, 런던의 세계 4대 컬렉션에 나타난 카키색 패션을 수집한 후 색상, 배색, 문양, 아이템으로 분류하여 카키색 패션의 조형성을 살펴보았다.
그 결과 카키색은 황갈색계열의 카키색이 가장 많이 사용되었고 배색에 있어서는 검정, 흰색의 무채색계열과 갈색, 베이지와 같은 유사색의 사용이 전체의 약 70%를 차지하였다.
문양은 기하학 문양이 가장 많은 활용 빈도를 보였으며 아이템은 슬랙스, 스커트, 원피스, 재킷에서 많이 활용된 것으로 조사되었다.
이러한 카키색 패션에 내재된 미에는 기존에 알려진 활동적 기능미, 자연미, 현대미, 현대적 남성미 외에도 카키색에서 연상되지 않던 우아미, 전위미 등이 나타나고 있다.
활동적 기능미는 기장이 짧은 하의와 남성의 탱크 탑(tank top)을 사용하고 비비드(vivid)한 원색의 배색과 기하학적 문양들을 사용하여 젊고 캐주얼하면서 와일드한 미의식을 표현하고, 우아미는 황갈색의 카키색이 많이 사용되었으며 유사색, 무채색의 배색과 잔잔한 문양을 통해 안정된 이미지를 살리고 드레이프(drape)성이 강한 직물을 사용해 여성의 인체미를 살렸다. 현대미는 수트(suit)를 기반으로 극도로 안정된 무채색 배색을 통해 도회적 분위기를 나타내었고 기하학적 문양이 대담한 형태미로 표현되었다. 자연미는 천연소재의 다양한 아이템들에서 갈색, 황토색, 베이지색 등을 배색해 시각적 편안함을 보였고 자연문의 사용이 많았다. 현대적 남성미는 국방색계열의 카키색이 주로 나타났으며 팬츠 수트에 블랙과의 배색이 압도적으로 등장하고 원색의 강렬한 배색을 통해 강인한 남성미를 표현하였고 이는 또한, 섹시한 여성미로 반전되어 나타났다. 전위미는 특정 아이템의 사용 없이 다양한 형태에서 원색과 메탈 색상의 사용으로 복잡한 형태미를 보여주었으나 미래적 표현보다는 과거에서 받아들인 에스닉(ethnic), 내추럴(natural), 그런지(Grunge)한 표현이 주된 이미지였다.
이상에서 살펴본 조형미 가운데 우아미와 전위미를 바탕으로 실제 작품을 디자인하고 제작해 봄으로서 본 연구를 통해 얻어지는 결과의 유용성과 의의를 확인해 보았다.
본 연구를 통해 카키색에 대한 정확한 인식의 확립과 카키색의 다변화된 표현이 이루어지기를 기대해 본다.

다국어 초록 (Multilingual Abstract)

The color is a crucial element that makes our lives rich through visual satisfaction, and particularly in the twenty first century, "the era of culture", it is used as the most important means of expressing the characters of every cultural aspect.
However, while the studies on color have centered on the basic colors such as red, blue, green, yellow, white and black, colors other than these are not properly understood in spite of their wide uses in social life.
This study attempts to research and analyze the khaki color, which is regarded to be the most difficult to be conveyed in general. In so doing, this study aims to contribute to better understanding of the khaki color.
First of all, I research definitions of the khaki, which originates from the color of "dirt", and set a boundary of this color. Second, I examine the pigments from plants that produce the color of khaki. In addition, based on the survey results and the color scheme dictionary, I analyze the characteristics of the khaki, from the cognitive perspective, and its attributes as a neutral color.
As for images and symbolic characters of the khaki, after reviewing the basic feelings of the khaki, I examine its symbolizations as a region, name of person, animal, and spice, and their examples in nature and paintings.
Based on this preliminary examination, in order to understand the formative beauty of the khaki in the modern fashion, I collect cases that use the khaki from the Four World Collections of Paris, Milan, New York, and London, during 2000s/s∼2003f/w. Then I classify them into color, matching, pattern, and item, which would help to analyze the formative characteristics of the khaki.
The results show that in color, the yellowish brown tone of khaki is most frequently used. In matching, the use of black and white, and the similar colors such as brown and beige constitutes about 70% of all cases. In terms of pattern, the geometric shape is dominantly used. Lastly, the khaki is utilized the most in the items of slacks, skirt, one-piece dress, and jacket.
Based on the results, I examine the aesthetic aspect of the khaki as such values as active functionality, elegance, modernity, naturalness, modem masculinity, and the avant-garde.
Pants having short length as well as men's tank top was used to express active functionality: Color scheme of vivid primary color as well as geometric patterns was used to express aesthetic sense: The yellowish brown tone of the khaki is frequently used to express elegance, and not only color scheme of similar colors and achromatic color but also calm patterns were used to express stable images, and textiles having strong drape were used to express human body beauty of women.
Extremely stable achromatic color scheme based on suit wits used to express modernity as well as urban circumstance, and geometric patterns were expressed in boldness of form: Naturalness was expressed by color scheme of brown, yellowish brown and beige, etc of various items of natural materials to express visual comfort and make use of a lot of natural patterns.
Military uniform series khaki was often used to express modem masculinity: Color scheme with black most frequently made appearance at pants suit, and strong color scheme of primary color expressed not only strong masculinity but also sexy womanly beauty as well. Avant-garde was expressed without use of specific items to make use of various types of primary colors as well as metal color and show complicated forms: However, it mainly had ethnic, natural and grunge images that were not future expression but the one accepted in the past.
The analytic understanding of khaki through this study is represented in the item submitted, which highlights the beauty of the khaki elegant as well as avant-garde. I hope this study to enhance understanding of the khaki and to shed lights on more diversified expression of it.
