The purpose of this study was to seek ways to enhance the expression ability of elementary school first-grade children by oral narration of nursery tale.
Language was a crucial means to communicate human thoughts and mind. Delivering one's mind, idea or feelings through language and beautiful physical expression was very meaningful and important. However, few children could deliver exactly what they meant to say, or had a diverse expression ability. The purpose of this study was, accordingly, to discuss how to teach a will to express or speaking ability more efficiently.
Chapter I reviewed the meaning of expression and the theoretical possibility of teaching how to express. An expression ability could be developed greatly by Korean language education, and it's ascertained that the oral narration of nursery tale was effective for raising children's will to express in the beginning stage.
Chapter II discussed the educational significance of expression, the components of verbal ability, and the teaching method of expression.
Chapter III looked into the educational value and teaching method of nursery tale oral narration. To guide it more effectively, teaching method was developed separately for each element.
In addition, a 5-stage instructional model was designed, and teaching plan was prepared based on that model.
In using oral narration, its two objectives should be pursued simulta-neously. Namely, the oral narration of nursery tale should be implemented in such a way to derive the educational and literary values from nursery tale, and the verbal and expression ability should be increased naturally in that process. As a means to develop expression ability, the oral narration of nursery tale should be put on the right track in classroom.
