1. Purpose, Content and Approach Method of the Research This research was to investigate morality statue of children of primary school according to several living virtuous characters to provide basic information for moral education of school, and to analyze relations with parents concretely as a trend for development of moral judgments power of children. Therefore the concrete Problems that this research could had answered were as follows.
A. How are the judgements of good and evil by children in view of four Items,
such as virtuous character, mistake, lie, propensity of theft and bad mischief?
B. How are the moral judgements power of children according to difference of age, sex and economic statue of their parents? what are the effects in concrete of various factors, such as education style of parents at home, social and economic statue of parents and school achievements of children at school etc, that influence the power of moral judgements.
The investigation method used in this research of morality character of children's is based on four virtuous character of mistake, lie, propensity of theft and bad mischief according to the theory by Piaget, while questionnaire on childcare style was used with the ones suggested by Lee Hong Woo, that consists of concept model of recognition and admonition childcare style.
The other investigation related with the research problems were used by materials prepared normally at the school.
To solve the research problems as above, three hundred sixty children from first to sixth grade of Primary School in Sunchang and three hundred parents were selected.
These research problems were reviewed.
2. Results of Research
The conclusion of the research was as follows.
A. moral judgement power of children
(1) Age of seven is a stage of heteronomous morality stage when they judge heteronomy and age of ten, eleven and twelve is the self-regulation morality stage when they judge by themselves and age of eight and nine is an intermediate stage.
(2) We cannot find any difference of development of morality concept between male and female. There appear differences for each virtuous characters. The difference between upper group and lower group in economical and social -status influence the aspects of morality concept development. That is children of the upper group which was faster in moral judgment power then the children in the lower group. This result is interpreted by the difference in childcare of their parents.
(3) There coexist self-regulation and heteronomy for same person. The some individual sometimes judge heteronomous in same case, while he judges by himself in other cases. This can be noticed at the age of after eight years.
(4) The development of morality of children is growing faster when they are more interested in the matter. In a case a child judged on the all the memory
related problems very maturely, while he judged immaturely on the matter telling the truth.
B. The relations between moral judgment power of children and various variable factors.
(1) Childcare style of parents according to concept model of recognition education of childcare showed positive correlation (total r=.42, responsibility r=.26, fairness=.32 ) with moral judgment power of children.
(2) Social and economic status of parents has close relationship with morality of children. Children whose parents suppress them less and respect the thought of their children, showed rapid growth of moral judgment power, two years earlier than other children.
(3) Children are judging right when the education method of teachers are thinking medication type.
As morality judgment power has cognitive nature originally, it is possible to enhance sufficiently the morality judgment power through legitimate educational course.
(4) Children internalize social criterion and moral value through social interaction process each other, with in the group of their own age.
