The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of interpersonal training program on psychological readjustment of victimized students of group bullying.
The subjects of the study were consisted of the first grades students in Daegu S middle school. They were randomly assigned to the interpersonal training group(n=8), individual free activity group(n=8), and control group(n=28).
The interpersonal training group was given a interpersonal training program during eight sessions. The individual free activity group was given free activity during eight sessions. The control group received no treatment during the period.
The Peer-Victimization Scale (Callaghan & Joseph, 1996) was used to measure pre- and post-training each groups. The Social Skills Rating System (Gresham & Elliott, 1990) was used to measure pre- and post-training each groups. The Self-Esteem Inventory (Hwang, 1988) was used to measure pre- and post-training each groups. The analysis of variance with repeated measure(mixed design) was used to examine the treatment effects within each groups.
The results of this study are as follows:
Interpersonal training program decreased the level of peer-victimization, and increased the level of social skills and self-esteem in the interpersonal training group. Also, the level of social skills increase in the individual free activity group not so much interpersonal training group. While in the control group which no treatment during the period increased the level of peer-victimization and decreased the level of self-esteem.
