The purpose of the present study was to investigate the value orientation of the elementary school children' parents in the city and the rural area.
The subjects of the study were 51 fathers and 140 mothers of 6th grade children in Seoul and a small village in Kyoungbuk province.
A questionnaire and value orientation inventory were distributed and collected for final statistical analysis
Major findings of the present study are as follows:
1. In overall analysis there was no statistical significant difference in value orientation between fathers and mothers regardless of their residence area.
2. However there was statistically significant difference according to their residence area in value orientation between fathers and mothers. That is mothers and rural area showed significantly high score in "the Subjugation dimension" and "the Mastery dimension" of Nature, and "the Lineality dimension" and "the Individualism dimension" of Human-Relation. And fathers and rural area showed significantly high score in "the Paster dimension" of Time, depending on their children's sex.
3. The results showed that parents' value orientation were difference according to their education level. and that is fathers and city area showed significantly high score in "the Doing dimension" of activity, and that is mothers and rural area showed significantly high score in "the Future dimension" of Time depending on their education level.
Discussion and suggestion were made for further study.
