The purpose of this study is to analyze the social language to peer popularity.
To achieve this purpose, the following research problems were established :
research problem 1. How frequently do popular young children use the social language? Are there any differences according to peer popularity?
research problem 2. How is popular young children's the social language category? Is there variety to unpopular young children?
The research took 70 children aged 5 in public kindergarten in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon. We used peer nomination method to measure the peer popularity of young children. Then, from the main group 24 children were chosen by peer nomination method. They included popular children, rejected children and isolated children. We observed the social language for them.
The collected data were analyzed by average, standard deviation, ANOVA.
The results of this study were as follows :
First, according to the peer popularity of young children, there is a difference in frequently the use of social language. Popular young children used the social language more than unpopular young children did. There were significant differences between the social language of the popular young children and that of the isolated young children, between the social language of the rejected young children and that of the isolated young children.
Second, popular young children used more variety of the social language than unpopular young children, according to concrete subcategory.
