The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of social conflicts solving through conflicts-conversion method on the children's coping styles.
To achieve this purpose, 77 five-year-old children were randomly selected at K kindergarten, located Ma-po ku, Seoul. Forty of them were assigned to experimental group and the other thirty-seven to the control group.
The experimental group children participated in social conflicts solving through conflicts-conversion method for 5 weeks.
In order to determine the effects of the treatment, a pre-test and post-test were given to each of the children. The collected data were analyzed by t-test.
The results of this study were as follows:
1. In the coping styles, the experimental group who experienced social conflicts solving through conflicts-conversion method was showed improvement in children's coping styles.
a. The experimental group children's active and approachable coping was improved significantly compared to those of the control group.
b. The experimental group children's passive and avoidant coping was reduced significantly compared to those of the control group.
2. In the focus of coping styles, the experimental group who experienced social conflicts solving through conflicts-conversion method was improved significantly compared to the control group in children's coping styles.
