The purpose of this research is to investigate the effects which the experience of going on field trips has on problem-solving thinking.
The subject of this research were 38 five-year old children who are attending S kindergarten in Seoul, Korea. The young children were divided into two groups : one experimental group, and one comparative group.
During this research, the children in the experimental group participated in six field trips.
This study was based on the following research questions and presuppo-sitions:
Question 1. Does the experiences of going on field trips make any difference to the children's interpersonal problem-solving thinking?
Question 2. Does the experiences of going on field trips make any difference to the children's objective problem-solving thinking?
Presupposition 1. The young children who had the experience of field trips would achieve higher scores in their interpersonal problem-solving thinking(including alternative problem-solving, result-predicting, causative and means-end thinking) than the young children who did not.
Presupposition 2. The young children who had the experience of field trips would achieve higher scores in their objective problem-solving thinking(including alternative problem-solving, result-prediction, causative and means-end thinking) than the young children who did not.
The research methods used in this study were the interpersonal problem-solving thinking test and the objective problem-solving thinking test. The former one is on adaptation of the one devised by that is Park Chan-Ok(1986) used in " The study on the interpersonal problem-solving thinking of children". The latter one was made by adapting the interpersonal problem-solving thinking test to apply to objective problem-solving thinking.
The responses were scored according to tests given both before and after field trips in order to find the effects of the experience of field trip impose on the interpersonal and objective problem-solving thinking. The collected data were coded, computerized with SPSS/WIN 10.0 software, and a 't' test were applied.
The results of this research are as follows :
1. The experiences of field trips had some effects on the interpersonal problem-solving thinking of the young children. As to the interpersonal problem-solving thinking (including alternativer problem-solving, result-predicting, causative and meams-end thinking), it is meaningful in the stastical sense that the fluency showed p<.001.
2. The experiences of field trips had some effects on the objective problem-solving thinking of the young children. As to the objective problem-solving thinking (including alternativer problem-solving, result-predicting, causative and meams-end thinking), it is meaningful in the stastical sense that the fluency showed p<.001.
