The objective of this study is to investigate what perception teachers and directors of preschool have on the professionalization of teachers for young children. The following questions were considered:
1. How do teachers perceive on the professionalization of early childhood teachers?
2. How do directors perceive on the professionalization of early childhood teachers?
3. Is there any difference between teachers and directors on the perception of professionalization of early childhood teachers?
For the purpose of resolving the above questions, 181 teachers and 119 directors were randomly sampled from participants in a workshop for early childhood teachers and a directors' meeting. The questionnaire of Nak Heung Kim(1999). T-test was applied to the resulting data compare perception levels of professionalization by teachers' and directors' school career, experience and age.
The findings were as follows:
1. A positive perception was represented of the profession-alization of teachers for young children. As a result of having inquired into levels of perception of the professionalization of teachers, positive responses were revealed in general. In particular, the most positive perception of teachers was represented from collective cohesive power, among the five subcategories, while the lowest from sex ratio. As regards collective cohesion, the most mean value was shown in the notion that budget for young children should be decided with more preference than that today, in the process of the government budgetary formulation.
2. The general tendency of director's perception of the pro-fessionalization of the teachers for young children reflected a high value. In particular, the most positive perception of directors was showed from intellectual ability, while collective cohesive, and sexual ratio was comparatively low.
3. As a result of comparison of the difference in teachers' and directors' perception of professionalization, no significant difference was found between teacher and directors, also with no significant difference among subcategories. However, a statistically significant difference of perception on collective cohesion was identified between teacher and director.
