The purpose of this study was to examine the relationships between organizational culture and organizational commitment. Especially, this study focused on the extend to which social workers' commitment to their organization differ from various organizational cultures.
Survey research was conducted from the sample of 354 community welfare centers throughout the country. Among the 820 questionnair sent to the agencies, 364 copies were collected and entered for analysing the relationships. Based on Quinn's model of four types of organizational cultures, several hypotheses were presented for analysis.
The results of this study showed that flexible and task-oriented organizational cultures have positive effect on the workers' commitment. Also group culture characterized by the personal relationship among workers and organizational unity is positively corelated with workers' emotional commitment to the organization. Multiple regression analysis was made to identify whether personal characteristics of the respondents are related to any subscales of dependent variable. Female, married, and experienced workers showed their strong commitment to the employing organization than male, unmaried, and less experienced workers.
This empirical study confirms previous research done in the field of business organizations. Implication for managing appropriate organization culture of social service agencies were discussed, further research on this subject was suggested in this study.
