The purpose of this study was to examine the self-concept of juvenile delinquents and to show the basic data for proper correction programs.
The researcher tried to find the difference of the self-concept between the violent delinquent group and the property delinquent group. The subjects for this study were 160 adolescents; 56 violent delinquents, 63 property delinquents and 41 non-delinquents.
The measurements of self-concept scale was by Jung Won Sik(1968) including thirteen subclusters: Self Criticism Score; Total Positive Score; Self Identity Score; Self Satisfaction Score; Self Behavior Score; Physical Self Score; Moral Ethical Self Score; Personal Self Score; Family Self Score; Social Self Score; Total Variability Score; Row Variability Score; Column Variability Score. To analyze the results of the 100-items, the oneway-ANOVA and Duncan test was utilized by SPSS.
The result revealed that the property delinquent group is significantly different in four subclusters; Total Positive Score, Moral Ethical Self Score, Family Self Score, and Self Identity Score on the level of p< .05.
The analytic results were as follows;
1. In the Total Positive Score, the property delinquent group got the significantly lower score than the violent delinquent group. It implies that the property delinquent group has more negative and skeptical of their own life. They also believe to have an unfortunate 1ife.
2. In the Moral Ethical Self Score, the property delinquent group had the analytically lower score than the violent delinquent group. It means that the property delinquents who have a weak moral concept are unethical, selfish and uncontrollable.
3. In the Family Self Score, the property delinquent group had the analytically lower score than the violent delinquent group. It means that the property delinquents don't have the pride of their own family and they have unsatisfaction, discord, trouble and hostility to the family.
4. In the Self Identity Score, the property delinquent group got the significantly lower score than the violent delinquent group. It implies that the property delinquent group thinks they are meritless, worthless and respectfulless.
