The purpose of this study was to find out vocational desire of S. C. I., and to provide materials for the establishment of successful vocational training program. For the examination of the study, the literature research and the survey with questionnaire were used.
The data was collected from February 1, 2001 to March 31, 2001 through a hospital, vocational training school and peer group in Korea. Among 150 S. C. I. subjects, 139 S. C. I. subjects, who were adequated for the purpose of this study, were analyzed. The collected data was analyzed by SPSS/PC + package, Frequence, One-way ANOVA, Cross-tab.
The results of this study were summarized as follows.
First, the mean vocational desire of S. C. I was 3.78. And the active desire was 3.89 which was very high; the desire of family support was 2.87 which was very low ; the passive desire was 3.67.
Second, the extent of disability and vocational desire were statistically significant. The extent of disability and the active desire were statistically significant (p<.05) ; the extent of disability and the passive desire were statistically significant(p<.05) ; the extent of disability and the desire of family support were not statistically significant (p>.05).
Third, the extent of disability and the convenience utilities problem were statistically significant (p<.01).
Forth, the extent of disability and the necessity of human-relationship training were statistically significant (p<.05).
Fifth, the most common class at vocational training program was computer, rehabilitation counselor, and handicraft in paraplegia, quadriplegia.
Sixth, the quadriplegia preferred 3-6 months as a vocational training period ; the rest of subjects preferred 12month. The paraplegia preferred vocational training school as a training center ; the rest of subjects preferred social welfare center. The quadriplegia and paraplegia preferred self-employed, salaried employee, and handicraft as a type of work.
