This study aims to identify how adolescents differs from their parents in evaluation of emotional and behavioral problems of the adolescents in Je-ju Do using Korean-Child Behavior Checklist (K-CBCL) targeted for parents and Korean-Youth Self Report (K-YSR). And it compared emotional and behavioral problems according to sex and the results were analysed using the correlational analysis. Also, it compared and analysed a relation between male and female according to age.
For this study, 1122 young people were targeted and interviewed using simultaneously both of K-CBCL and K-YSR. As for common emotional and behavioral problems from both the measurements, a difference between targeted groups was analysed according to sex. As a result, in K-CBCL, there was a significance in all the behavioral problems : Anxious/Depressed, Delinquent, Aggressive and Internalizing Problems and in K-YSR, there was a significance in Somatic Complaints, Delinquent, and Externalizing Problems.
Also, as for internalizing problems, it was shown that female students have higher significance than boy students. Comparing the evaluation results of the adolescents with those of parents, there was a significance. The adolescents had higher average points than parents in every area. Evaluation of parents differed from that of the adolescents and the evaluation results were also different according to sex.
According to age, female students to age of 16 had higher significance in emotional and behavioral problems while in case of age of 17, male students had higher significance. Also, in case of 17 year-old adolescents, there was more significance in internalizing problems between male and female. Such result indicated the adolescents themselves are aware of their emotional and behavioral problems more than parents.
Also, it indicates that parents were preferentially aware of internalizing problems while young people were preferentially aware of externalizing problems. In self-evaluation of the adolescents, females were aware of emotional and behavioral problems more than males. As parents were older, they recognized that male students have more emotional and behavioral problems.
As for a correlation between emotional and behavioral problems of K-CBCL and K-YSR, there was a mild Correlation. As a result of analysing the correlation according to sex, the coefficient of correlation was higher in female students than in male students. The correlation coefficient of emotional and behavioral problems of K-CBCL and K-YSR had a significance of 1%. It indicates that there was a significance between evaluations of parents and adolescents.
